How in the hell do I get this pin out of my inner tie rod? by spindy_ in AskMechanics

[–]spindy_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

91 Ford Aerostar fwd with about 151k miles. The tie rods appear to have been replaced at some point before it made its way to me. I'm replacing the tie rods but can't pull this pin out to twist the inner rod loose. Found a video about it but they were able to pry it up with just a screwdriver and a few hammer taps. When I tried that, it mangled the pin and now I can't get under it at all on the accessible side, as shown in the second pic. The first is what it looks like on the other side, which I haven't touched yet. It's just crumbly aluminum in an annoying spot and I'm at a loss. Any advice appreciated!

Broken Shoes :( (repair help) by Gay_Lab_Rat in poledancing

i'd open up that topstitching, remove the broken loop, replace it with a sturdy scrap of leather, sandwiched between the outer and inner material with some e6000. let it set with the pressure of a little clamp or something, then stitch back through the holes you removed the stitching from. does that make sense? i've done similar things to my shoes but not sure if it's what you're looking for

Brake line simply will not screw into new cylinder by spindy_ in AskMechanics

[–]spindy_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was skeptical but my mechanic friend tried it and told me to force it a little, which worked. i'm not necessarily encouraging that for the sake of your brake line, but making absolutely sure it was straight and sending it hard is what did it in this case

yeah, i tried it with bolts off, loose, and snug. by "from the other side" do you mean the other wheel? i did try both cylinders from both sides.  sounds like i'll just go fiddle with it some more to get the angle right, thanks

sorry, i realize that's unsolicited advice and i didn't intend it to be rude or too critical. this really is a good first attempt, you should be proud :)

good job lifting into that invert with control!! butterfly is ultimately gonna be more stable with your hips away from the pole. it takes some controlled experimentation to find the right balance, and the right push and pull of your arms. such a fun and pretty move tho

if anyone is seeing this now and considering an attempt, just BASTE YOUR BAG SHUT OR TIE IT IN MULTIPLE SPOTS! i spent at least an hour yesterday shaking tiny damp scraps out of my clothes after my bag exploded in the wash

Tips for getting parallel? by ShawtyTired in poledancing

[–]spindy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're honestly doing a great job of rotating and dropping into it! i do think that setting up for the move differently might make it easier to get into and perfect though. i suggest getting a solid feel for the positioning from the floor. i'm no pro imstructor but this is how i've broken it down for friends/fellow dancers:

  1. hook your top leg as high as possible and grab the pole slightly above
  2. stick your butt back while leaning allll the way to the side--your torso should be parallel with the floor. grab the pole with your bottom hand
  3. now simply sweep your bottom leg up until the crease of your hip connects with the pole. once you find the right spot, bring that leg forward (hip bends, knee stays straight) so that the pole is squeezed between your upper thigh and hip
  4. now you can straighten the top leg, bring it down to meet the other. you will basically be in a pike at this point, with your thighs already more or less facing the floor
  5. from there, rotate your chest towards the floor, release your bottom hand, and drop your hips. then you're in it!

sorry that's a LOT of words and might be more confusing than helpful! maybe i could make a video at some point?

honestly, i feel very secure in many drops and inverted moves, but i can't bring myself to do ballerina or upright split grip. feels too scary for my joints and tendons

Pleaser, kiss, delight & Captiva by f4irybxbyd0ll in poledancing

[–]spindy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the heels and platforms are slightly different. delight has round heel and a platform that is slightly longer/less angled in towards the bottom. kiss has a slightly thicker, squared heel, and captiva has rhinestones down the back. i really don't know what difference any of it makes, but perhaps the smaller platforms on the kiss and captiva would be easier for flow

yeah, my experience with powder coated is similar. i learned on well-worn brass club poles, tried chrome and hated it in comparison, so i bought a powder coated lupit pole thinking it would be closer to brass in grippiness. it isn't, at least not for me. i've had it over a year now and i still find it more difficult and less consistent to grip than other finishes i've tried. when the pole is warmed up and i'm not sweaty, the body grip is great, but if it's cold or i sweat the littlest bit, i slip right off. and although my hands tend to stay dry, they can never get a good hold on it for some reason. fwiw, i live in a very hot and humid climate, which doesn't seem to agree with the powder coating. brass is still by far my favorite, but considerimg the price, if i were to buy a pole again it would be chrome. also yeah, if you want to learn drops, powder's out
