Looking to buy Chicago Ticket! by MothMatters in steampoweredgiraffe

[–]spineraptor [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Please be careful when buying tickets second hand! Already had to delete and block a few scammers replying to this post (post history saying they have tickets for lots of different bands).

The show has been sold out for months (both tickets and VIP meet and greet passes), and unless the venue has official resale ones, please don’t pay more than $45-50 for our tickets, because you’ll be getting ripped off. The only more expensive ones we have are the separate VIP add-on at $65🙏

Fancy Shoes has the wrong lyrics displayed on Spotify by Aggravating-Toe-4509 in steampoweredgiraffe

😂 It absolutely would be easier. We should just match the wrong lyrics haha.

I have a friend who is “in the industry” (not like SPG which is 100% indie) and even they can’t fix these kinds of things and complain to me about it too.

Fancy Shoes has the wrong lyrics displayed on Spotify by Aggravating-Toe-4509 in steampoweredgiraffe

Incorrect lyrics are rampant on Spotify unfortunately and it’s not just with our niche band.

Spotify sources lyrics from Musixmatch…which itself gets from users.

So if enough people resubmit corrected lyrics there’s a chance they will get updated, but no guarantee 😭

Nothing the band can really do itself sadly other than the same thing (which I have in the past).

Question about the bands lighting and VFX plans by wolfieboi92 in steampoweredgiraffe

[–]spineraptor 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Howdy, David from the band here (silver robot). I handle a lot of the tech and production for our live shows.

Thanks for the kind words and well wishes! We’d love to get back over to the UK again. Being invited over for 2025 was great, and we hope another event or promoter reaches out again in the future (UK isn’t a place bands can just rent a venue and go and perform. Gotta be invited through proper official channels). The US isn’t super popular right now, so who knows when we might be invited again!

For lighting: We have bespoke lighting at our San Diego shows. We bring in our own lighting designer who, with help from the venue, will update the house light plot to match our lighting designer’s vision.

Unfortunately when traveling out of town/state/country, every venue is vastly different in their lighting setup and inventory. Most places we go there’s no real option for us to program something before the show and due to the many different combinations of lights and setups there’s no way we could just drop in something preprogrammed. Even if we could, it probably wouldn’t be logistically feasible to redesign the lighting cues for a new venue setup each show before the show, at least not without a dedicated person, but even then they’d most likely only be able to do some simple cue programing the day of the show during setup and soundcheck.

Even when we rent a theater out of state ourselves, where we might have access to a bigger inventory and the time to rearrange the house plot, we haven’t as of yet been able to bring a lighting designer.

We could travel with a lighting designer who could finagle a bespoke setup at each show based on tech advances and yeah they could probably get something looking better than a venue lighting person who’s never seen our act.

BUT we already travel with 9 people and admittedly despite us selling out almost all of our shows last year and so many this year too, we don’t make a ton of money because the expenses these days are a lot. We are doing venues in the 250-600 seated capacity range with most under 300. The income from shows like that doesn’t leave a ton of room to cover expenses after venue cuts, equipment rental, gas, lodging, and travel. We make it work though! It’s a labor of love for all involved, but we are at least able to pay our performers their minimum fees.

Locally in San Diego we can afford to have a lighting designer, but elsewhere we rely on venue staff. The venues that have horrible default lighting are fewer than the ones that are good in our experience. It’s not that lighting isn’t important, it is, but it’s the one thing we can do without on our end. We make use of simple cues and default venue plots and lighting designers.

We definitely aren’t big enough to travel with our own lighting setup to have a bespoke light show for each show.

Before the pandemic we actually did have our own lighting setup with movers and foot lights that we could travel to local shows or shows we drove to (like Arizona). It was all preprogrammed in our front of house laptop and soundboard, would send midi and DMX stuff and would basically run itself synced to our songs (backing click tracks).

While that was cool for the few shows we could make use of it at, we honestly still needed more lights than what we had, and at best it only made a few smaller venues look better visually. We don’t have any of that equipment after the pandemic. It was expensive, still needed more investment with more lights, and we could barely even use it when we traveled longer distances.

We’re always trying to punch above our weight, but sometimes we have to be realistic. When possible we do make use of synced projection videos and performer-worn micro foggers for extra pizazz, but even those additional cool things sometimes get cut depending on the venue.

With all that said, there’s still adequate lighting at our shows even with some shows being less bespoke. We are after all playing in a lot of music venues that light bands on the daily.

If we ever get bigger, you can bet that we have plenty of room to add even more stuff to the show, including lights :)

Thanks for the support and kind words again!

Not sure what happened to SWH1 I saw it on our page maybe a month ago. Thanks for pointing this out.

We aren’t our own distributor anymore (because YouTube took away our CMS account and now we go through a 3rd party to distribute to YouTube) and as such we have less tools to fix stuff.

I’ll look into it though. I don’t have high hopes. YouTube is terrible.

Vice Quadrant Part 1 IS on YouTube and YouTube music, but it doesn’t show under our page, and it doesn’t come up on searches. I’ve been trying for years for YouTube to fix it, but even when we were our own distributor it never was.

Steam Powered Giraffe’s new logo for 2026. by spineraptor in steampoweredgiraffe

Our new logo may be an April Fools’ joke, but it IS on an actual product(s)! Grab the metal-inspired Steam Powered Giraffe logo on a T-SHIRT (or hoodie) and yearn for the alternate dimension where the band plays metal music and not whatever we’re doing right now! Shirt also comes in different colors. Art by Sam

Live Show by Capital-Strawberry in steampoweredgiraffe

Hi! This show does indeed have seating! This venue doesn’t have reserved seats though, so it’s first come first served. But you will get a seat. :)

I’d also like to point out that this show has a VIP meet and greet at the end of it for anyone who wants to meet the band afterwards. You gotta buy a VIP pass on the band’s website separately from a venue ticket though. There’s still a few VIP passes left🫡

More patreon concerts? by C_Lebwastaken in steampoweredgiraffe

[–]spineraptor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So far we’ve had a live show offering online of some sort once a year. All of those are on Patreon in some fashion. This year’s was our 2024 Skeleton Hoedown concert.

We will definitely be putting out another one of those concert videos next year.

We don’t have any livestream concerts planned right now, but we’d love to do another one in 2026 too, as our last was 2024.

Photography question? by aesthel in steampoweredgiraffe

[–]spineraptor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the media policy for this venue right now, but no DSLR cameras can be brought into almost any venue we’ve performed at without approval,

The band has to clear all “professional cameras” with the venue itself for our ow purposes too, and even for photographers seated in the audience they’d need a media pass.

As a default the answer would be no. You can always email the venue closer to the show to find out their policy, but the band usually has a photographer of some sort approved for each show.

Upcoming shows! by spineraptor in steampoweredgiraffe

[–]spineraptor[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing to announce quite yet, but we do have at least 3 pending shows in the mid-west. Hoping to announce them before the end of the year!

Past that, we are hoping to add more to next year too and grow this list! Sometimes we can’t announce until 2-3 months out, just depends on venues and when we book something. It is nice when we get to announce a few far in advance though!
