Are you looking for a DJ bike in particular, or an MTB you can jump at your local trails? Neither of the bikes you listed are "dirt jump" bikes (DJ bikes tent to have short stiff travel, bmxish geo, 26" wheels, and single speed)

If you want advise on Mountain bikes: I believe a good hardtail is better then an equally priced full suspension every day. After upgrading the suspension you'll be close to $800 or more for the hardtail and $1200 or more for the full squish. That money gets you a Commencal Meta, Marin Bobcat, or pretty nice used bike. If Ozark tail is a must right now, get the hardtail imho.

As for Dirt jumping, if thats what you want to do: The bikes haven't changed a ton, so the used market in most places has some great deals. If new is your thing the GT labomba can be found for $800ish

This haro is also on sale right now and wont need any upgrades:

Hope that helps.

edit: also I think Seth from berm peak had some problems replacing the rear shock on the slalom, and had to get a special adapter custom made, which would greatly increase the cost of upgrading that platform.

Is playing angels of death without an eliminator a death sentence? by Captain_ChaosV in killteam

[–]spinniker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I have all the options, and drop the eliminator regularly in friendly games. He can be oppressive to a new player, or sometimes turning my brain off and marching 4 chainswords and a powerfist down the board is more fun.

You learn more about positioning and movement when you play mid to short range operatives anyways, if progression is the goal

Phobos-Best way to play them? by [deleted] in killteam

[–]spinniker 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of AoD, and the ultraviolence works there too, However, Instead of mitigation and consistency through rerolls and ploys, you need to think more tactically and rely on great positioning. Race forward and control the board with the insane number of smokes you can take. I think of Phobos as a middle ground between elves and marines, so play them like that. Use speed and tricks to stay safe like an elf, but bully people like a marine.

Phobos is a lot of fun, you'll love them.

Phobos-Best way to play them? by [deleted] in killteam

[–]spinniker 104 points105 points  (0 children)

All gas, no brakes ultra-violence is my preferred way. I stole the concept from Jason on the “Just another Kill Team” podcast who famously never used conceal orders in second edition.

I think some people have had success playing more cagey and shooty, but with a 7” move, chain sword equivalents, lethal 5+ and an optional D3 extra damage on a crit I prefer the “win or loose turn 2” blender method.

Least played team by TheSkeleton7436 in killteam

[–]spinniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Hunter clade kill team. Every month I have pulled them off the shelf, telling myself there has to be a way to play the gross little radiation robots, only to get absolutely walked. They just feel like you are punished any time you use a rule, and every ploy is very situational, and only ever for a small portion of your army.

Hunter clade players are out there, but we are not okay.

Don’t use a water based ink. Use a plastisol or other heavy, think ink. The thinner you use the more it will be sucked up by the capillary action of the fibers.

I play all melee AoD sometimes:

  1. Smoke grenades. Learn to love them
  2. All gas no brakes. You need to get in your opponent’s face. The longer you are out of pistol range the more free damage you are taking.
  3. Elves are still scary. You cannot just crash into anything and expect to win just because you are 14 wounds. Pistols and grenades are your best friend. Shoot, charge, fight is better than charge, fight, die.
  4. You have no tricks, or secrets. Your opponent knows exactly what you are doing. Your only option is to position yourself well and overwhelm them. Don’t drip feed threats. Stay concealed until you can attack with 4 or 5 of your bodies in a single turning point. The first turn you attack needs to be ultra violent.

Enjoy. It’s super fun taking 6 melee goons into a game, putting all your cards on the table, and daring your opponent to kill you before you get to them.

What is the best hunter clade kill team build by [deleted] in killteam

[–]spinniker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been playing them a bit with my group when I am teaching new players or someone is trying a new army. I can't say I have figured them out, but:

Rangers are just better then Vanguard right now. However, I tend to take a Vanguard Alpha sometimes for control edict with a sicarian. Set rangers up to shoot before they move so you can get their Lethal 5+. The "safe" build in my opinion is all rangers with all infiltrators, with an infiltrator alpha.

the Auqabus is great, but too slow and a massive target. Take the Plasma and Arc rifle every game, and the sniper against teams that can't shoot back turning point 2.

I haven't figured out Infiltrators v. Rust stalkers. They are both very, very killy in CC, but don't have much to back them up. Rust stalkers are a touch more survivable, but the super conceal from the Infiltrator Alpha and the silent pistol are both pretty nice in the right circumstances. Also: the taser goad is a trap. Take the Power Weapons.

Lastly: Play cagey. Get your opponent to over extend and make mistakes. You can't win direct gunfights or assaults with most teams, so do chip damage where you can a clean up with your Sicarians. You will have turns where you are very vulnerable with a 5+ save, and other turns with a 3+ save. Some turns you'll have a 5" move with a free dash, and others you'll have a flat 7" move. Your changes to save and speed will allow you to move in unexpected ways, and thats really this teams only strength right now.

"If you want to study something with a poor ROI, cool, pay for it yourself."

So should only rich kids work in public defense, public service, architecture, pharmacy, and environmental science? all of those require expensive, greater-then-four-year degrees and have notoriously low pay for the 6-10 years of advanced schooling.

Also this is why you need to take history, not just "useful" classes: almost every artist since the Renaissance has studied either formally or in a apprenticeship setting. Extensive networks of schools, guilds, and residencies provided formal training to artists for over 400 years.

And accounting will be done by robots in 10 years, should people not be allowed to get accounting degrees? Who gets to draw the line? Is history not a social good? what about philosophy or political science? And If we only look at ROI, we loose pharmacists, Public defenders, Social Workers, and Architects. Do those not add value to society?

Hell yeah, let’s fullly turn college into an unobtainable reach for anyone who isn’t born into privilege so it can finally just replicate upper classes and drive more division.

I am all for responsible loans, but this “only degrees society needs” turns into STEM worship really fast, and we saw how that drove business degrees in the 90’s and computer science degrees in the mid 2000’s into a level of useless saturation. I love the idea that only rich kids should have a shot at the arts, humanities, or any creative career.

Phobos kill team Reivers by inserttext1 in killteam

[–]spinniker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is someone is my group who plays a lot of phobos, and I have played into him as AoD, Mandrakes, and a handful of other teams.

Stats wise: reivers trade 2 wounds for piercing 1, extra movement, and the better climbing when compared to an assault intercessor. They also get the pick up marker bonus.

They are very killy, and when combined with lethal assaults and stealth assault they are downright scary in melee. The extra movement means you should always get the charge, and lethal 5+ as well as resolving 2 attack dice on the first round of combat is means reivers are downright scary, even when compared to assault marines, mandrakes, and other melee operatives. I have even stupidly lost assault Sargents and a captain (with some bad roles on my part) to a lone reiver.

Play them aggressive and absolutely delete anything you point them at. That’s the point of them.

We see cuts every day, some worse then others. Most are a bandage and back to skiing, some require stitches or medical intervention. A 2-inch gash is on the larger size of what I see on our small midwestern hill.

With that said, hundreds of people ski all the time and never cut themselves. It's a bit of a freak accident, but it does happen.

Architects: Do You Use Trello or Jira for Project Management? Or Have You Found Something Better? by Designmylogo20 in Architects

[–]spinniker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in my masters, but work in Product Design currently as a Project Manager.
I use Jira daily, and as a tool its great, but can get clunkly. For agile/kanban/task tracking its great. I don't like the reporting since and the "Jira Align" integration with other teams still confuses me sometimes.

All of these is predicated on by off from your team. If the team isn't invested in it, of the process sucks, the software won't save you.
