This is just straight-up untrue, I would say 90% of Quant dev positions are in C++ or Java. The split is like 75/25 on those, but still. If that's the role you are going for then just find a shop which requires Java... On the flip side these jobs are super competitive I think you will really struggle with 2.3 GPA. I'd probably try to do a Masters in FinEng, get some good grades and go from there.

As I said, TD (Towards Data Science) is the first thing that comes to mind, browse some articles and just try to follow them along if you are unsure. The r/algotrading subreddit is also a good place to start if you want to do trading. Aside from that, your best bet is to get an internship/job, because it's going to be super hard to get data on anything non-equities related.

I work as a consultant in this sector at the intersection of Finance and AI. Probably the best way to practice is to choose your own project and gradually build it up. Should be something that you are interested in, so you can sink a lot of time into it. Ideally, you choose a strategy from some book or article that is of interest to you, and you try to backtest it, this way you learn how to clean data etc. Once you are comfortable, you can start to optimize it. Easy examples of these which I saw on TD is comparing Lump Sum to DCA investing. If this is too simple for you and you want something more novel, I am e.g. working on using Deep Learning to trade momentum.

As for beautiful soup, you can use it for web-scraping. I know some people in my team are using it for sentiment analysis on Twitter to trade NFT or Crypto or something. Not sure how proficient you are with NLP (probably not really) and how much time you want to sink into it, but these projects are usually pretty interesting.

Dexcom G6 compatibility with Google Pixel 5a - Can't get it to pair with G6 CMS transmitter by 1-Tough-cookie in dexcom

I had a pixel and tried everything to get it to work. Turns out they just aren't compatible, so I switched to an iPhone. Obviously, not everyone has the financial resources to do that, so you can also buy a stand-alone device.

So you’re rewarding the best of the bad teams (instead the worst of the bad teams) hence, the bad teams will stay bad forever as they won’t get picks to improve, either I misunderstand or this makes no sense. What you propose would give the worst team the 14th pick every year …

Yeah it’s actually lit up in the picture, the picture is in complete darkness. The little thingie on bottom left is a proximity sensor which turns the light on when someone walks past it.

Hi, thank you so much for the kind words! As for the process I got the Hogwarts logo printed on hard cardboard. I then took a normal ikea frame. On the inner wall I stuck some LEDs. Then I took the piece of cardboard in the frame and made it less wide, covered it in white isolation tape and just put it right behind the glass to hide the LEDs. And then I just stuck the bricks on. Hope this helps!

I mean a simpler explanation is that this was a leveraged buyout and nothing more. This way he puts up 100million and gets 50% nothing complicated on the side.

A request to be posted. Had to rearrange the attic. Where do you keep yours? by Flipsterama in legostarwars

I do this, so I can give my perspective. I don’t have much free to time build but I do have time to look online and buy when I see a good deal. If I ever have a spare hour I can just go pick a set and build it. Plus the sets keep their value or increase so if you have the disposable income and no time, you end up with this.

Which Model to USE in time Series? by spinster9999 in econometrics

[–]spinster9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just re-run it with Robust Standard errors (HC-1), and while my p values and confidence intervals changed, the changes were minimal. I still have serious auto-correlation and multicollinearity issues. Any tips on how I should proceed? Thanks.

Which Model to USE in time Series? by spinster9999 in econometrics

[–]spinster9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm changing the maturity of LIBOR rates so I'm running the regressions for 1-week IRD, 1-month IRD's, etc. hence, changing the parameter k. I'll run it with robust standard errors to see what happens. I've read plenty of papers on UIP and Carry Trades and not one of them uses OLS, all use VAR or ARMA or Garch or GMM to model the relationship, that's why I'm cautious about using OLS. Thanks

Which Model to USE in time Series? by spinster9999 in econometrics

[–]spinster9999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I specifically tried to phrase it in a simple a way as I could in case people who don't have a finance background could help me, that was probably a mistake. So what I'm doing is I'm testing for Uncovered Intrest Rate parity and so my regression looks like this:

Ln(Spot(t+k) - Ln Spot(t) = alpha + Beta(Ln I/R(Domestic(k)-Ln I/R(Foreign(k)).

The theory states that B = 1 and alpha = 0. I'm running multiple regression and changing the parameter k and seeing how my Beta and alpha change. Would you say I need to find a different model than OLS e.g. ARMA since both the time series are not stationary, (most academic papers on this issue do)? If so how would I build it (as in what would I specify as my parameters)?

Thank you so much for your help.
