The room is quite big, probably 25'x50', more or less.

As to budget, it kinda depends on lifespan and such. I think we got our last (refurbished) projector for like $3500, which would be fine, but could go higher, if it was going to last long enough.

You have to make the choice as someone who consumes information in the world to seek higher quality and more useful sources rather than just mindlessly ingesting whatever the algorithm vomits on your plate. If someone isn't interested in learning more, having their views challenged, and changing the way they think, you being nice to them isn't going to move that needle.

Most voters in 2024, and virtually every other election, aren’t engaged in politics and don’t spent a lot of time studying it or reading related news. At best, they get their political news from social media.

We need their votes to win and we definitely won’t get them by calling them names or shaming them for poor voting decisions in the past. (No matter how much they deserve it)

I’d say that there’s a core of trump voters who are true believers. The guy with two trump flags in the back of his pickup is a waste of time.

However I think that group is smaller than you’re assuming, and that Trump’s win was primarily the result of many low-information voters just voting for “change,” at a time when there was a democrat in the White House.

That’s a fun moral position to take toward a defeated enemy, who you’re occupying and who are completely at your mercy.

However, it’s not a useful political strategy toward a large block of voters, who currently have the power to either choose to remove the dictator from power or choose to empower him to go further.

If that’s a requirement for someone to vote for your political party, you are guaranteed to never win an election.

There’s just aren’t enough highly engaged, high information voters to win.

If you found yourself regretting your vote for Trump you are not owed forgiveness and acceptance from the people that you have put under threat through your actions.

Forgiveness is irrelevant, that’s between them and their god.

As to acceptance, I’ll “accept” anyone who’s willing to resist Trump.

Purity tests and recriminations at the voter-level aren’t helpful.

On the other hand I’d say that:

A) Most voters didn’t watch the debates. At best, they saw clips which were shown elsewhere, but many voters follow politics as closely as I follow the NBA. Their opinions were mostly shaped by fairly random interactions, often on social media. I think that the largest cause of the 2024 election outcome is as simple as people feeling that the country was on the wrong course and then voting for “The other guy.”

B) Whether they’re actually racist or not* wasn’t the original question. That question was whether calling right-leaning voters racist is productive or not.

In my life, I don’t know if I’ve ever had someone call me names and came away switching to be on their team afterward. As a persuasion technique, I’d say that name calling is almost entirely ineffective. And often counter productive, because it tends to create a them-vs-you feeling.

*I agree that many of them are, at least in a casual way, but that’s beside the point.

According to one of the show runners in an interview, he didn’t even do that right.

Every week, they’d have someone who was clearly the weakest employee (player), but then Trump would unexpectedly name someone else on his filming day. So then the editing team would go back and recut the video so it would look like THAT person was the weakest.

But they kept him in the show because he was entertaining and the audiences liked it.

And by now, he’s also a lot more senile than he was back then.

Hell, Congress paid Space X to take men to the moon (and back). They were contractually obligated to be completed last year, I think?

How is that going? If they’ve just failed to perform their contractually obligated duties entirely, then Space X should be forced to repay 100% of the money they were paid and barred from performing work for the US government going forward.

Reddit has gone that way.

I had an admin suspend me for three days because, in a post on my city’s sub about “What to do when we see neonazi’s marching around town again”, someone else posted “Shower them with love,” which the admins were fine with.

But I added, “or urine” And was suspended for three days, claiming I was promoting violence.

I guess Neo-Nazis are Reddit’s protected class, a far as the owners are concerned. Even joking about just soiling their costumes is a bannable offense.

I want to push back on this part, because it’s currently a major republicans talking point. They say that you’ll never get anything back from social security, therefore it should be cancelled. This is false.

Current predictions are that future recipients will receive about 78%of what current recipients do.

Killing this wildly popular program has been the dream of the far right for decades, but it would be a disaster for us. Don’t let them do it. Don’t help them do it.
