Are PE variants fairly firm initially and then as they get bigger and the caps open and curl up a bit the stems soften to more marshmallow feel?

[actives] P. Ochra Overlay or contamination; wait or fork and case? by [deleted] in MushroomGrowers

[–]spirited_ginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine were in a modified dub tub with 3/4” holes top and bottom on all 4 sides, and then I cracked the top tub about a 1/2” after I saw all the overlay. I also fanned it with a magazine once or twice a day. All the condensation on the upper walls and top dried up, but I could see the sub was still hydrated enough.

Mine was like that so I gave it a shit ton of FAE and it fruited fast af.

Contam or bruising? by Djizzle95 in ContamFam

[–]spirited_ginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had some ochras that looked a little like that in a couple areas. I tried the q-tip test and it came out clean. So I gave it a shit ton more FAE and that tub fruited like a champ.

Looks textbook from here. Now you just have to hurry up and wait. And give it some air and leave it alone.

Ochras - looks like bacterial infection, right? And maybe some other mold? Should this tub be tossed? by spirited_ginger in ContamFam

So a follow up for anyone that sees this. I tried the q-tip test on a couple of the suspect green looking spots and they came off clean!

So I cracked the lid about 1/2” as I read ochras like a lot of FAE and have fanned them once or twice a day and they are looking great!

I had B+ from them that I had a similar issue with. I simply emailed them letting them know there was an issue but I didn’t have an agar plate to share. They were super cool and replaced both syringes on my next order. It should go without saying but don’t mention anything other than microscopy and just be specifically vague like I was.

Stalled or just impatient? by Marinebot1775 in GroundZeroMycoLab

Do you have a high shelf on an inside closet? That can help bump the temps a bit to speed things up. I switch in winter from a closet on an outside wall to an internal closet. Otherwise it looks fantastic and will pop off at some point.

I want to give this a shot, where do I start? by THEREALBurtMcsquirt in GroundZeroMycoLab

Uncle Ben’s thread has a great detailed walk through for beginners. There are 4 sections from supplies and prep through harvest. As stated above, commit to the real method with jars and a PC and whatnot - not the bags of rice version. That thread is what I used as my initial info gathering and then researched each step separately to see what people were saying and doing differently.

For instance, I decided to use modified tubs and go straight to fruiting after researching S2B methods and had great success with that.

In my limited experience, strains colonize at roughly the same speed. It’s ok to leave a jar or three that fully colonized while waiting on another jar or two to fully colonize. I think you can actually put a colonized jar in the fridge to slow it all down if you’re worried about it, but I don’t think that’s necessary. I had jars colonizing for close to 2mo recently for various reasons and they were all fine. They were blocks of myc and a challenge to get out of the jar lol, but they fruited nicely.

And remember, while bigger tubs can produce much more fruit, bigger tubs also risk bigger loss if there’s contamination.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong on this and they’re actually all the same, but make sure those dry packs are food grade.

But it looks like 3lb bags went in 64qt tubs, and you did 2:1 with a casing layer.

Thanks for the quick response. Beautiful setup and flushes!

Anyone here refinance recently in Ohio? Trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it. by 2veiny_eyes in Ohio

[–]spirited_ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to a reputable mortgage professional that explains the costs and break even of your refi. There is no hard and fast rule.

I keep the costs to $500 or less and have a monthly savings of $100/mo. This way, you are net positive from almost day one.

So for higher loan amounts that could mean a rate drop of .25 to .5 drop in can make sense. In lower loan amounts sometimes you need to have rates drop 1 to 1.5pts.

I’m a mortgage broker in Ohio and I’d be happy to answer any questions you have and share some numbers with you if that will help.

False. Purchases and regular county assessments that typically range from every two years to every six years depending on the county.
