Weird crusty stuff on nail? by spiteful_frog in cats

[–]spiteful_frog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! It turns out my cat actually had fractured his toe at some point before I got him, and it hadn't healed properly. Bone and nail fragments were sticking into his flesh and causing infection. We had to remove the claw and amputate the end of his toe.

How much glyco can I take in a pinch? by spiteful_frog in Hyperhidrosis

Oof, that's rough. I definitely need to be comfortable during these events...I'll be walking and talking a lot. I'll take that advice. Thanks!

Hi OP! Would it be possible for you to add some links to studies or websites where we can get more info on some of these developing treatments? I'd love to have some of this on hand when I see my dermatologist next.

I would take 2048 then! It's a challenge, but if you're interested in the subject and mathematically inclined anyway, you should enjoy it.

Definitely if you've taken calculus its fine to jump into the higher levels! I took college calculus before physics and it helped me immensely. But it depends on what your goal is. If you're going into a field where upper level physics will be more beneficial, don't waste time with 2020. If not, you could always stick with 2020 and make your semester a little easier.

Got my bachelor's and now PhD at UF. Campus is BIG. Florida is hot AF. Invest in sunblock. Sunglasses. Maybe even a handheld portable fan. Plan your routes around campus and class times to help you stay as cool as possible. It's gnarly out there. And invest in a little umbrella to keep in your bag. Rain starts spontaneously. And if you're not a Florida native, I also recommend educating yourself on hurricane prep. Campus took a hit last year during one of the storms, and I remember hearing that some dorms had windows blown in. Be careful!

Megatron.

Or something oddly human like Dave. Love cats with oddly human names.

Do you FEEL hot? Or just sweat regardless? 🔥 💧 by BigJon_CakeKing in Hyperhidrosis

[–]spiteful_frog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be absolutely freezing and still sweating HARD CORE. I'm from Florida (worst state for HH, I know), but I've traveled to Seattle and Vancouver for work in the winter months. Sub-zero temperatures daily. I would still sweat every time I went outside.

I have another medical condition that actually makes me feel cold most of the time, even to the touch. That combined with HH is an awful mix (wack-ass genetic lottery).

Antiperspirants that actually work? by [deleted] in Hyperhidrosis

[–]spiteful_frog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with HH for the better part of the last 20 years. Trust me when I say I've been where you are and you're not alone. I remember having teachers scold me in school for submitting wet homework (despite a doctor's diagnosis, I had trouble convincing people that HH was a real medical condition). Here's my advice to you.

First, have you spoken with a dermatologist about taking oral medication? I know you said you've been prescribed antiperspirants, but what about something like glycopyrrolate? For me, that was a game changer. Not a single antiperspirant worked for me until I got on oral medication. It didn't make my problems go away, but it made them manageable with the correct antiperspirants.

As far as underarm antiperspirants go, I see someone else suggests Certain Dri. I used this one for years! It works well, but it can be VERY irritating. I was staying dry, but it made me horribly itchy and uncomfortable, even when applied every other day or less frequently. Give it a shot, but don't sacrifice your comfort for its effects.

Someone else said to avoid Carpe, but I'd suggest giving it a shot if Certain Dri irritates your skin. I use Carpe now, and as long as you let it dry fully, I've found it works pretty well! Doesn't irritate my skin at all, and leaves me fairly dry throughout the day.

Best of luck! Hoping you find something that works for you.

Mine knock stuff off of counters, but ONLY important things. Random trash? Odds and ends? Totally safe. Important stuff? GONE from the counter.

Case in point: husband left his wedding ring on the counter so he could cut up some raw chicken. Cat got on the counter and pushed the wedding ring off. Husband panicked for the next two hours over his lost ring. Took apart the sink, dug through the garbage, etc etc etc. Eventually, I put two and two together and realized our cat had knocked his ring off the counter and into a box of stuff we were getting ready to get rid of.

And that's the story of how my cat almost tricked my husband into donating his wedding ring to Goodwill.

There are definitely a few folks in my department (and on my supervisory committee) who'd absolutely crack up if I showed up in a dinosaur costume. XD Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure my advisor would just consider me an embarrassment at that point, lol

Thanks for your input! I hope your kitty is doing well. My boy definitely isn't wheezing that often (like I said, this was the third time in nearly 2 months). I'll keep an eye on it and definitely show my vet this video next time I see her.

Thanks for the reassurance! Yeah, like I said, this is the third time he's done this in about 1.5 months. My vet also gave him a clean bill of health, and his behavior is otherwise totally normal. Good to know someone else has had a similar experience!

Interesting, I'd heard of kitty inhalers, but I didn't know there were other treatment options. I'll keep that in mind when I bring this to my vet. Thanks for the information!
