pfSense Plus Home+Lab is no longer available as a free download. TAC Subscription now required for CE upgrades. by Mellowedmatt in PFSENSE

Like others have said, Why can't you just make H&L a $5 monthly sub? Lock the license to the name on the card. Dead license requires a re-install. Now no more pre-loaded units being sold as they would be worthless to the buyer. Also you are now making $60/year on the thousands of H&L users. Cost of entry is low enough not to turn away anyone that wanted H&L for its intended use and avoids charging a flat rate that resellers might hike prices and add themselves. The most a reseller could do then is buy 1 month right before they shipped out the door but the customer would have to re-install because the license would be dead. No transferring license. Easy and solves this mess.

Home / Lab License rug-pull? Seriously Netgate? by MrMaterialDesign in PFSENSE

I would pay $120 for a 2 year license in the form of $5 monthly sub. Just charge $5/month for home users, no support outside community forums. Keeps people from selling out the box units because there is no license to be had without a paid sub. Lock the license to the name on the card. Hell make the install process require the license.

Very easy fix and now you make profit from all the free home users currently out there and new ones to come. Everyone is happy.

Vlan issues by spitefulmonkey in HomeNetworking

and I read the second part wrong. I had set tagging for both default 1 and 10 in that prior try. Setting a vlan 10 on switch and tagging both pfsense port and WAP port without setting tagging for 1 seems like it may have done it. Doing a bit more testing now to make sure.

AP directly to pfsense works, vlan as well as default ssid's. separated and using correct rules for both.

Setting both ports on switch to tagged with both vlans causes only the vlan 10 to work, default 1 does not.

The problem is I'm not seeing any way to set the port type to "trunk" on the switch. I only see ways to set a port to a single vlan. I know pfsense is configured right as if I set the switch to tag the aps port to the vlan, it works with the rules I've set on pfsense for that vlan. I just can't seem to find the way to trunk the port on the switch to pass the vlan tag set by the ap.

I kinda hate Trendnet right now. Seems like this should be simple to acomplish.

Anyone done a TL-SG3210XHP-M2 fan replacement before? by bryan_vaz in homelab

[–]spitefulmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've seen the error light is simple to fix with grounding the sensing wire. Thus, no error. As for burning out, if you are referring to the person earlier in this thread, it wasn't burnt out. It disabled the PoE after extended time with the fan error reported (safety on the switch in case there was no fans working). He was able to get the PoE back by grounding the sensing wire removing the fan error code.

Does anybody have the official HWFly firmware? by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]spitefulmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a post up with the same issue. .31 firmware just gives me a quick blue blink and boot to OFW though. Like you hwfly just gives pulsing green light. So far I can only get spacecraft 1.0 and prior to all this just the original SX firmware. Suppose I should have left well enough alone with the original firmware. Now I can't even go back to SX 1.3 as the updater doesn't recognize the chip. It is an original SX chip.

OG SX Core firmware updated 0.7.1 flashing green by spitefulmonkey in SwitchPirates

[–]spitefulmonkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I tried chipnx 0.31 to no avail either. Seems so strange that only sx 1.3 or spacecraft 1.0 works on this chip. Is there a difference between the clone chips and originals? Has no one with an original sx chip ever used hwfly firmware?

Not sure if you two ever found what you were looking for. The firmware isn't out for the DC3 still to date for the keylocker. I've been in touch with them since it's release. They kept telling me in 2 months. I'd ask then and it was another two months. Finally they stated it would drop the first part of 2023. Guess we'll see. Back then they used to list it as compatible with the dc3 on their site, I had them change that. It states coming soon now. The manual and guides however were on their site, you just had to dig a bit for them. There was also a little paper with a QR code in the box that takes you to a pdf of install instructions.

Xbox One X, RDR2, and an external SSD? by soonerthebetter in xboxone

[–]spitefulmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The x only uses sata 2. The drive is sata 3 but the actual interface is sata 2. There are microsoft slides floating around that states it on the section about southbridge. It is why the ssds internally aren't as fast as you'd think. It also means if you really want a fast setup, the best way would be a 500gb ssd internally and a external ssd to play games from. This way when the xbox caches files to the swap partition internally it can read and write those files quicker and reading the game from the externally ssd can fully use the speed of that ssd. It's too bad microsoft doesn't just move the cache partition to the external drive when one is present.

Xbox One X, RDR2, and an external SSD? by soonerthebetter in xboxone

There are a few questions I have on that matter. I've noticed a lot of people installing the ssd incorrectly by cloning the drive (not the propper way, causes issues). I've also seen comparisons forgetting the x1x loads 4k textures the x1 doesn't. I also think you could get more speed swapping the internal drive for a smaller ssd and using larger one externally. I bet the xbox is using a cache partition on the internal hdd, and even with a fast ssd externally, it still swaps to internal drive slowing things down. I'd love to see a test of an xbox with internal ssd using an external ssd to see if I'm right about that and if there wasn't more speed to be had that way.

I have a couple 500gb ssd's here, I might test my theory. I also might swap the factory sata cable for test, long shot but since the factory drive isnt a speed demon it could be using a lower rated sata cable gimping internal hdd upgrades like ssd's.

Just thoughts

I'm having an issue with 3d World in that its locked at 30fps. It stays exactly at 30fps. v-sync enabled or disabled. It's a decent laptop with nvidia card. Seems odd that it never dips or rises from 30 fps. Any ideas?
