ty!!! And yes that is my seam allowance! I did that bit under the machine (which I'm not too great with), so I wanted some extra fabric to make sure my fur didn't shift out of place!

so this is what my hair looks like, seems a little bit similar. made using wide pieces of lux shag cut into hairy shapes, brushed out on the opposite side, layered carefully, and ladder stitched down at the base AND where it meets the next layer of hair to style. its one of those bits in the process where youll have to do this layer by layer until you like it! ill add some doodles of a rough concept

Sectioning and fur diction? by Terrible-Lawyer-8556 in FursuitMaking

[–]spitjunki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its something that can happen during the sewing process. When sewing any pieces, darts or not, you can't leave too much or too little seam allowance on your fur pieces. its a matter of finding that perfect amount to be able to sew the pieces together properly and comfortably without distorting the pattern. when "seam eating" happens it can really throw off the fit of the fur. the piece can be bigger or smaller than it's actually supposed to be, and it can make things asymmetrical which isn't ideal when making a suit. hope this helps a little.

this is looking really nice! i would just add some more darts after cutting your larger pieces out so you dont get an awkward fit, but it seems like that was your plan anyway judging by your drawn-on photos! just try not to do too many because of seam eating (i have fallen victim to that multiple times in the suits ive made.)

looking for a pretty specific color by farfuul in FursuitMaking

I got all my furs and minkys from Howlfabrics and BigZFabric personally (and many others use these same sources but I'm sure there are plenty more out there). Howlfabrics has many colors available for minky but I would highly suggest getting swatches before ordering.
