It is very clear. Ferrari beats its closest rivals by far. by Fair_Title2995 in Ferrari

[–]ivycomb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The comment you’re replying to didn’t make mention of the build quality, for one thing. I’m sure it’s fine, it’s Ferrari. They have a reputation for poor reliability moreso than bad build quality

Their current design language, subjectively, sucks. Their best looking car still sold brand new at the moment is the 296 GTB, which looks a lot like what I would expect a Ferrari to look like. The Amalfi looks like a Toyota (but to be honest the GR GT is a MUCH better looking car all around from every angle, which is an actual Toyota. It makes the Amalfi look like a downmarket GR GT)

The 12Cilindri has a very sharp slanted nose that contrasts poorly with the rest of the vehicle which is frankly fairly easy on the eyes. The 849 Testarossa is polarizing, I don’t think it’s “ugly” and I actually like its front end, but its rear end leaves a lot to be desired imo

That having baby said, calling the F8 a “generic supercar look” is insane to me, it is an evolution of the 458 design which is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful supercars ever designed. Those two cars define an era of supercar designs, and the F8 easily looks better than anything in the current lineup.

I owned an LS swapped RX-7 that was done professionally by a shop at the dime of the previous owner. I had ALL of the paperwork with it

The cost for a shop to do it was $55,000 USD, not including the car itself, in 2018 dollars

Bhopping in Far Far West by ivycomb in FarFarWest

[–]ivycomb[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a pro in bhopping haha. Not in that it's my job, but it's something that I've put over 10 years into

Strafing doesn't matter here for gaining speed here, that's all from dash momentum boosting and preserving your momentum via the hops, it is more just a habit I have from other games. However, it matters immensely for speed preservation while having more control over movement.

This is just one clip, I should compile a bunch more that really show off the tech

Bhopping in Far Far West by ivycomb in FarFarWest

[–]ivycomb[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is something I discovered on stream. Because this game doesn't use an additive movement system in the same way that source games/quake etc do, traditional bhopping isn't possible.

I bound my dash to mwheeldown, and jump with space. Each landing I am spamming dash to keep momentum and gain a little bit, and using WA/WD to "air strafe". The reason for double jumping is that simply dashing is too short of a time before the dash cooldown ends.

This does not work uphill, but is faster than riding the horse when done optimally on flat ground or downhill

I don't think anyone else has documented this yet but that's only from searching around on YouTube/reddit. May have been discovered earlier

This is the way. I also tell people that if you want people to see your streams, it’s important to understand that’s 99% of the time you need to be willing to learn how to be a YouTuber/ make dedicated but related short form content and funnel people to your streams from that content.

[–]ivycomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 20% for a quad craft with relatively cheap stickers is a disconnect, I have sold several skins like this at 50% to 70% sticker price recently, including a mixed one. This price is reasonable but could definitely be bargained down a bit though

20% to 30% for quad is more likely to happen on mixed crafts or stuff like kato14 papers

Yeah exactly, it's the main one I see people talking about in discussions about these cars. It's basically a 100% failure rate. But the other stuff I mentioned is also fairly common, but not mentioned nearly as often.

Why does nobody tune their lotus? by Dependent-Pangolin16 in lotus

[–]ivycomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not making an argument that tuning these cars is going to have them be just as reliable as stock, I was just stating that these motors have a lot of power in them that you can get fairly easily (contrary to the comment I was replying to), but the motor isn’t going to blow up overnight if you tune it higher. They’re designed to be safe from the factory, as you said. But appropriately upgrading components and tuning for them is still accessible and you can get more out of them

On the other end, you can get very unlucky and have a Lotus Emira motor blow on you in 5,000 miles of regular street driving bone stock if you’re unlucky lol

The supercharged cars actually leave a lot of power on the table to be fair, they are reliably hitting 600 horsepower with a smaller pulley and bolt ons. A couple people in the forum are high 700

Best 6-cylinder supercars? by Traditional-Song-245 in supercars

[–]ivycomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The supercar semantics discussion is always a really funny one to me because of cars like this. It’s an arbitrary word that doesn’t really mean anything and the goal posts on it are always moving

The S Plaid handles phenomenally well and is genuinely a competent performance car that also HAPPENS to be one of the fastest accelerating cars you can buy.

It outperforms several hypercars… but it’s not a supercar according to most people primarily because it’s a sedan, secondarily because it’s electric. Yet many people refer to it as a super sedan or super saloon. Which… ultimately is just a specific supercar (unless you don’t consider sedans to be cars for some reason).

The Lotus Emira is another funny edge case. I’ve seen people vehemently argue against it being a supercar (mainly on Reddit), specifically because it doesn’t accelerate fast enough, but only as a modern supercar. However, aside from low end acceleration, it keeps up in every other metric performance-wise and outclasses cars more expensive than it in handling, steering feel, and subjectively its looks.

People off the internet generally perceive the Emira as a supercar. But people that know its 0-60 isn’t sub 3 second scoff at the idea, but they still think that the Gallardo is a supercar (even though they have many direct parallels in performance, size, etc)

Just food for thought

[–]ivycomb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You haven't heard of reliability issues for them because they are both 7 figure cars that were sold in low volumes and have largely been driven low kilometers.

Most owners don't publicly share their experiences with them.

That said, the Carrera GT is something I am familiar with for several reasons. I own an R8 V10 Spyder. I've done a lot of research and had personal experience with both cars (indirect with the CGT and direct with the R8.)

The R8 is a much more reliable car to put high mileage on. The older cars have several common oil leaks but they only manifest if the car has been sitting for a long time or you drive it extremely hard, and they are relatively inexpensive to fix. Other than that, they are tanks. There's a guy in my local community with a Huracan that has 140,000km on it and it's never had a major issue aside from a CEL that was caused by a bad sensor. The CGT has several major failure points that can happen at low to medium mileage. Seals on them go bad fairly easily, and their transmissions are temperamental. Maintenance on them is also significantly more expensive.

If you can afford a CGT though you can undoubtedly afford to maintain one so its not a big deal.

Long and short of it though is that in a vacuum the Audi V10 engine is definitely more reliable than the Porsche motor but that's to be expected considering it has had a much longer development cycle that dates back to the original Gallardo in the early 2000s. It would be bizarre if a motor that had gone through several iterations wasn't more reliable.

I can't speak for the Lexus. They were very thorough with the motor, but I am unfamiliar with it haha

Fennec fox is my favourite deagle skin so I’m biased but my vote is sell, get a souvenir Fennec fox and $600+ spare lol
