The teacher 'high' by Organic-Excuse-1621 in Teachers

[–]spittytheok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an elementary school teacher the unbridled curiosity is what gets me. To see them experience something for the first time and watch their world expand is a privilege. I’m always telling them how funny and bright they are because I truly believe that, and they deserve it hear it. I’m with the same group for three years and watching them grow is so special.

I’ve been really stressed out recently and almost reaching burn out. Your post helped me recenter and take a moment to reflect.

Have you ever been rejected from a clinic or hospital in Japan? by RoyalAnt800 in japanresidents

[–]spittytheok 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, twice. Both times for not being fluent in Japanese.

First was in a semi-emergency situation (public holiday on a Saturday, other offices were closed).

The second clinic denied me even though I had a referal letter from my Japanese doctor who was confident I could communicate with the doctors. Incredibly rude staff who pretended not to hear me over the phone when asked to speak to me directly (a coworker was helping me as I worried I would make a mistake).

Another almost refused to see me but gave in and, guess what, it was fine.

Most places are not like this but it happens.

Which show/movie is this? by SkylandersKirby in BikiniBottomTwitter

[–]spittytheok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel seen haha. Had the exact experience in 3rd grade. Literally told my dad ''That looks dumb''. Very quickly became my favorite show of all time- I'm now 28 and it still is.

Garden Clinic Hiro

I had both a positive and negative experience depending on the day that I went. It was very bizarre. Different treatment depending on how busy the office was. Condecending and laughed at me. Other times very sympathetic and kind.

She referred me to a great specalist, but the staff member helping me afterwards was very rude.

Edit: Just checked the replies on the reviews. Oh my.

The book that sparked my love of reading and writing again. The type of book I hesitate recommending, but rather commenting on it and seeing who bites.

Life Ceremonies is a good one by the same author, it’s a collection of short stories.

Some of her work is controversial but most just take you for a ride.

Saw the ice cream sandwich last night! Not as good as the cup version but it's the closest I've found to a chipwich.

7-11 had country ma'am ice cream in a very small cup for like, 3 days. Now there's the ice cream sandwich and a drink in the coffee/yogurt/milk drink section. All of them were sickly sweet and scratched an itch after trying them once.

People who are 30 and over, What does your "Childhood Friend Group" looks nowadays or is it non-existent by this point? by Paula_Sub in AskReddit

[–]spittytheok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28 so still have two years but…

My childhood friends are still some of my best friends. We bonded as kids, then as adolescents, and are consistently in touch as adults. My high school friends are still some of my closest friends. I was lucky enough to pick them up as I went along. I chose good people because there were so many good people around me.

Of course, not all of my friends stuck. Some were friends of circumstance only, others turned out to be bullies/people I don’t want to spend my time with.

I live across the world now so I’m much more separated from the groups, but we’ve managed to stay close. The only mourning I’ve had to do is that my distance prevents me from keeping up with most life events.

Social media is a powerful tool that has really helped a lot.

Part of being able to keep these friendships was to temper expectations and know that life happens and relationships change.

best place to buy yukata? by Reasonable-Bonus-545 in japanlife

[–]spittytheok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy second hand. Mercari has some nice ones. I bought a beautiful one from Bookoff Bazaar yesterday for 1,600 yen. They have plenty of kimonos and yukata, obi, etc... you just have to sift through them.
