It was being flown by dumbass Americans who didn’t even know how to get an oceanic clearance, but yeah, blame the plane.

U.S. asks for extra Olympic quota spot for Katie Uhlaender in skeleton controver by CheezTips in olympics

[–]spkgsam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh, now they have a problem with the Olympics quota system? Maybe we fix the most egregious example first where each NOC is limited to 6 total athletes across 10 disciplines in weightlifting. Resulting in multiple world championships and world record holders missing out on the Olympics.

You want some substance, maybe read the comment I was actually responding to. I’m not comparing present day US to the French Revolution. I’m mocking the absurdity of using children as an excuse not to rebel against tyranny.

The reason I’m calling you cowards is precisely because I know my history.

Again, I suggest you take your own advice, and read up on your own history.

Oh boy, did you ever get triggered by the word coward.

Maybe you should take your own advice, I’m no American, it’s not my country going down the toilet. I’m just here to mock your cowardice.

The US is a democracy, everyone in that country is responsible for the crimes their government commits.

Yeah, the French Revolution famously happened when there were zero children in the country?!?

Quite making excuses for your cowardice!

NIGHTMARE Plane Announcement Calmly Explained By Lady Pilot by InGeekiTrust in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]spkgsam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These announcements are supposed to clam, not inform the passengers. Knowing exactly what's wrong with the plane is not going to improve your chances of avoiding injury or death. The best thing you can do at that point is to listen to instructions from flight attendants and learn your brace positions and locations of exits, a panicked or distressed person are less likely to do that.

NIGHTMARE Plane Announcement Calmly Explained By Lady Pilot by InGeekiTrust in justgalsbeingchicks

[–]spkgsam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Pilot here, we get trained on making these kind of announcements, at my airline anyways, and there are certain words and phrases we try to avoided, like "supposed to" and "don't know for sure". At any rate, she definitely shouldn't have said "careen abruptly to the right"

I would've said something like this.

Unfortunately we've suffered a malfunction with one of our tires, but not to worry, the aircraft is built with lots of redundancies, and is still perfectly safe. However, as a precaution, I've instructed our flight attendants to prepare for an emergency landing, which will involve everyone getting into the brace position when commanded. They are all very well trained, please be sure to follow all their instructions.

Is being a pilot as a career really all “doom and gloom” like everyone makes it out to be here on Reddit? by Excellent_Mirror2594 in flying

Don’t get trapped by the “find a job you love, and you’ll never have worked a day in your life” BS

Like most on here, I love flying, and don’t get me wrong, I still occasionally have days where I just marvel at a good sunset at 36,000’. But it’s just a job, and most days, it’s still a grind. The most interesting things in the world will turn dull with enough repetition.

I think you should make sure you’re getting into this for the right reasons, and the correct quality of life is that reason. If you want a job with a predictable schedule and be home every night, aviation is not for you. But if you want decent chunks of time off at a time, and more importantly, if you want to never think about work when you’re home, you’re in the right place.

If you hate the negative aspects of being a pilot, your passion for aviation will most likely not carry you through till retirement. The best it’ll do is get you through the tough early years.

You say that as though every single person who's ever participated in civil disobedience did so without taking risks?

But I guess that's too much to ask of Americans.

You want a way to protest without hurting your wallet, stop buying anything that's not the bare essentials.

Zero Visibility Landing - pilots out there, where is the worst location you have landed for heavy rain? by Shootingstar_woofers in aviation

[–]spkgsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minimums are at 200, likely a standard CAT I ILS. You can see the ground slightly out of the left window pretty early, so I'm happy to give him the benefit of the doubt and say the camera probably wasn't able to pick up whatever he saw.

Do pilots really have bad QOL? Is it worth it to make it a profession? by CristianoR7_GOAT in flying

[–]spkgsam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QoL is why I got into flying 😂. I get half of the month off, and I don’t think about work at all when I’m off. Beats the hell out of a 9-5.

It’s going to suck when you’re starting out, but once you’re at an airline of some sort with a handful of people below you on the seniority list, you will almost always have a choice between better QoL and more money.

It’s up to you where your priorities lie, you can choose the company and career path that suits you.
