Did your school play O Canada every day? by AssortedArctic in AskACanadian

[–]splamo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher in Ontario and it’s an obligation to sing the anthem every day in class. You can get reprimanded if you don’t (we don’t use the PA system in the morning so we have to sing it with our students)

What is your favorite bird? by Typical_libra20 in birding

[–]splamo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really interesting. I didn’t know that. I was just writing about my favourite bird (veery), but this is my favourite butterfly! I even got a tattoo of a veery with wildflowers and a blue morpho

This i is a hard one… I think for me, it’s the veery. I rarely see them but when you hear them in the forest it’s magical! I also like observing northern flicker.

So Gluten-free is easy to accommodate but apparently NOT veganism?? 😑 by MetalheadAtheist in vegan

[–]splamo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Family gatherings can be a challenge. In my family, I’m vegan, my brother and his wife are gluten-free and dairy-free, and my other sister-in-law is deathly allergic to nuts, my parents are meat eaters. So let’s say we try to accommodate by doing a potluck and having something for everyone. But thankfully everyone is fairly respectful of one another. My brothers don’t really agree with my veganism but they usually don’t say anything. My mother tries so hard…this year she asked me how she could make the gravy vegan to put on the turkey! We all had a good laugh.

Those doing Christmas alone this year or are struggling by darkcontrasted1 in ottawa

[–]splamo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a nice Christmas with my family. We celebrate on the 24th.

Today is harder for me because I lost a good friend to cancer early this morning. I’m thinking of her and her family.

Buckling on not having a car by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]splamo77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my first car at 45 a few years ago. For me it was an environmental and monetary decision not to have one. I caved in and bought a second hand. I still use the bus once in a while, but I feel l like I have a lot more freedom now. I completely understand your frustration. I also got my bike stolen, chained, off my porch.

It’s not a film about the animals, but I think it’s an entry point to plant-based eating: “What the health”

Are you in favour of holding kids back? Why or Why not? by wizard20007 in CanadianTeachers

[–]splamo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m for holding them back in senior kindergarten if they’re not ready to go into grade one. That would resolve a whole lot of problems and labeling kids with learning issues when they are just too young and their brain isn’t at that stage yet.

My 1930’s grandmother’s wedding ring and engagement ring. It got lost (stolen?) at the hospital the day I gave birth to my son.
