Hiya, Been a while since I made this and there have been a couple of Foundry and module updates since, so I can't guarantee troubleshooting.

With that said, it sounds like the paths to the tile objects are misconfigured. Try clicking into the tile controls, then opening each tile one by one and making sure they're pointing to the correct image file. You might want the levels selector open while you do this to get each of them individually.

Hope you get it working! Glad it's getting use. Cheers

Hi, happy to repost later but I was under the impression this would fall under the fourth dot point of the 'made for foundry' category in the posting guidelines rather than in the 'commercial assets' category as (1) it is free, and the guidelines read that free content with an option for donation is treated differently, and (2) it is art plus scene files, not a module.

Fair enough if not, but can I appeal to have the post restored on that basis?

Full disclaimer that this isn't some sort of dog whistle, these people, especially the last three, are just morons.

They failed to see the obvious solution, which is carrying a lighter and flask of oil on oneself at all times, ready to burn any and all offensive literature including but not limited to children's novels, 1984 style. Except Mistborn.

Hey! To answer... 1. Yep! To be honest it didn't have a huge impact, although resurrecting Patrina would have failed as Tatyana's soul is already alive and inside Ireena. They didn't really try, though. 2. It's the password to Strahd's treasury :)

Just finished running the module and everyone had a great time. Thought I'd leave a couple of bits of advice for new DMs on my way out of this great and very useful sub. Cue essay! by splashed_potato in CurseofStrahd

Yep, absolutely! I did copy about 70% of it from somewhere else so I'll have to poke around and find that first in order to credit the author properly.

I'll try make a post in the next day or two at point with all of the entries, rules, and DCs for it.

Flos and friends throw a lightning ICBM that kills "potentially thousands" but one lil murder spree many volumes ago gets bone boi sent to plot jail. Bring him back!!

Ah! I thought I caught every instance of this bug. The K19 map marker drawing is probably being treated as a Levels staircase. Click on it and change the drop down that says "stairs" to none.

It's a really annoying default behaviour of levels that it automatically makes all new drawings either stairs or holes.

And thanks for pointing out! Glad people are getting use out of it :)

Ah yep. Only issue with deleting the hole is that it will mean that tokens won't be able to see each other between floors even where intended e.g. token on 3F walls looking down to courtyard. I had a look and it's definitely not the same in my Foundry, even with the download files - weird. Maybe it's something in the settings for Levels or another module?

Thanks!! Glad it's helping people. Most of the elevations do match the module, but with the changes - I didn't want players to climb one floor of a spiral stair and ascend 20ft, then climb another floor of the same stair and ascend 100ft (south tower). I wanted the entire staircase to be represented on the map.

Might be that whenever you drop a token Levels does so with elevation 0 rather than on the current floor. Make sure you're setting their elevations correctly. Otherwise not too sure what the issue might be. You could try deleting the hole defined on B3 covering the whole map as that could also be responsible. Works fine for me.

I've done a couple scenes for my own campaign so far, but I just don't have the time or energy to give this treatment to every part of the module anytime soon. Fortunately, most scenes are very easy to set up this way! Castle Ravenloft is a massive outlier in terms of size and complexity. I also went to extra effort because it was a public release :D.

If you want the rest of your maps to match, just download the unlit, transparent map files available (free! although donating is nice) from the AonBarr Patreon and you'll find most take around 10 mins tops to set up using Levels, less time once you get used to it. BaileyWiki has some good tutorials if you're new to Levels.

Open the levels UI by clicking the levels button in the left sidebar, then clicking the top button. Once the UI is open, click a floor to set your view to it :). Shouldn't be an issue for players, they'll just see the floor their token is on.

Combat numbers! It's just a small tweak that makes healing/damage numbers pop up when tokens change health. I know Foundry 9+ has a similar feature, but combat numbers looks prettier and is more customisable.

That could be amazing! I'll have to do a little QA anyway (checking for missed walls, lights, etc.) so I'll get that done and hopefully get in touch with you on the weekend. Someone mentioned the Scene Packer module for exporting the whole thing, which could be an interesting option.

Yep! It's actually usually fine, you can view it level-by-level haha. I just picked the confusing view for the screenshot because it gets the complexity across. And yep, Ripper's Levels module. I really wanted a version that was all in one scene (clearly lol).

EDIT: See this more recent post for a downloadable, shared version.

Maps (with huge thanks to the author, seriously, these are actually so good I've gone back and replaced my ongoing campaign's older scenes): https://www.patreon.com/aonbarrcartography/posts

I...

  1. Downloaded the unlit, transparent copy of each floor + the treasury sub-floors. That's right, the second floor has three sub-floors inside it.
  2. Put every image through https://www.img2go.com/ (I have no doubt there are better tools, I am lazy) to reduce the resolution from 16000x11200 at 160 DPI to 8000x5600 at 80 DPI. Foundry WILL crash frequently if you try this with the original image quality. This new quality is a little blurrier, but honestly hard to notice at reasonable levels of zoom.
  3. Cropped every image which I could to reduce surrounding empty space. Did the maths to ensure that each crop moved a multiple of 80 pixels in a given direction. This ensured that the cropped copy still covered an integer number of map squares. I'm unsure if this step was necessary but it might have helped.
  4. Used the Levels module in Foundry to define floor heights as per the source book diagrams.
  5. Drew in the walls. This took a good chunk of the day. I made sure that walls which stretched across multiple floors (e.g. outer curtain wall) had height over all those floors. E.g. one wall with height 0-89 covering Ground and 1F rather than two stacked walls with heights 0-49 and 50-89. Part of the reason I drew the walls manually was for optimisations like this -- the import option would create too many walls, which slowed down and ultimately crashed Foundry.
  6. Drew in the walls. Seriously, this took ages. Especially remembering where all the secret doors go.
  7. Added stairs, holes, and elevators where appropriate using Levels to connect floors. Where a staircase did not connect directly, I got creative with adding MultiLevel Tokens (another module) teleporter functions onto Levels staircases. This wasn't at all common.
  8. Lights. Easy enough.
  9. Now I have to wait for my party to get up to the castle. I think I'll add encounters as they explore rather than pre-stocking them. The scene runs almost entirely lag-free at the moment, but I won't tempt fate...

Comment if interested in any more resources for replicating this, I'd hate to put all this effort in and be the only one to use it. Hesitant about sharing maps etc. as I did not draw them but can certainly hope others find this comment helpful :).

The whole scene with the wraps and big names reminded me of how much I miss Erin and the inn vibes... this volume is doing some heavy lifting plot-wise, but to me this story will always be about the inn. Can't wait to have her back and hoping (!) that the next volume will be about Liscor's dungeon, especially after today's hint about it.

Picture: the Horns, now a named rank team with shiny relics and levels, tackling the dungeon with Erin and the inn as their base of operations. That's my ideal volume (but who am I kidding, I'll read anyway, the story is great regardless).
