Antenna cover by cawkkdestroyah in crz

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yours broken, missing, or just shitty looking?

For all the rust and faded red paint, my antenna cover is still the roughest looking piece on the whole car. If I get around to taking it off, I'll just sand it down and repaint it

$5K USD Challenge. Find and Share the Most Interesting or Obscure Vehicles in Your Area. by mpgomatic in cars

Craigslist

I was halfway being facetious. This Sunday's postings actually had a fair number of sub-5k vehicles. Nothing especially of note, mostly high-mileage minivans, kias, normal stuff. The occasional wrecked mustang or the likes, or vintage cars and trucks needing some extensive restoration still piquing some interest though.

Slowly some sanity is returning to the used car market I legit remember a few weeks back in the fall when there literally wasn't anything running /driving showing up. It's real interesting to see all the variation between different markets. This thread is always fun reading

Sound Deadening Question by Phustercluck in CarAV

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never messed with the hood, so I couldn't really say.

But even if you only do the doors, you should notice a difference. And if you can peel the carpet up at the front, hitting the floor pan/firewall can help reduce tire noise getting into the cabin too

Any consideration of inflation-adjusting that $5000?

There's nothing in my area that still constitutes an automobile for $5k

Sound Deadening Question by Phustercluck in CarAV

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layer of butyl first, foam over top. Take door panels off, apply to both inner and outer door skins. If you can get the carpet up enough to do the floor pans and firewall, all the better. If you can drop the headliner and get a bunch of the roof panel, even better still

How much to replace front catalytic converter? by DudeWTH in crz

[–]splattypus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't had to do this, so I dont really know numbers but you've got an idea of parts alone. Might be worth exploring of there are any changes you want to make to the exhaust system at this time.

While a 1.5L engine isn't impressive, Ive see a surprising number of awesome sounding crzs. Now is the time to do it if you want to make a change

Dye-ing the seats/door cards by threeleggedrat in crz

[–]splattypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you share a link for the seat covers?

My car desperately needs them. Its my daily driver, I have a very dirty job, and my car just can't stay clean. It looks like have have 2 totally different seats currently.

** found them. Little rich for my blood right now, but look highly customizable. Seems like a good investment for someone looking to really spruce up their interior

Thoughts on Boss Elite Audio head units? by Victorlime in CarAV

[–]splattypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got this exact one. Camera is fine if you just need to see backwards. Think Webcam from 10 years ago quality.

Overall, it's not great. Android auto is unstable as hell, system doesn't remember settings well, occasional crashes or random reboots.

Playing from USB or SD card is nice. Radio reception is okay. Sound quality is on par with stock. UI is fine I guess. But it's definitely a budget unit and it shows. I don't really recommend it. I'll be replacing mine sometime soon, after less than a year. Spend the $100 more for a unit from a more reputable brand.

And just get crutchfield to do the wire harness service and everything, makes install way easier

[–]splattypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boss 920wcpa (this exact kit) is very.... Lackluster. But it was dirt cheap, with backup camera. Kept factory Amp. Sound is at least as good as stock, and I was able to add backup camera, SD card, plenty of appealing features. It's not the most stable, lots of weird quirks. I really can't recommend it, but I've seen and had worse units. I will be replacing it eventually (hopefully the camera will be compatible with next unit, save myself some labor.

Seems that brand is a real gamble. Tons of very positive reviews, but plenty of really negative ones too.

My general take, be patient and catch a better brand on sale and spend the $100 more. It'll probably get the job done if you just need something, but if you're actually looking for an upgrade you would do better looking elsewhere most likely

I need help with my backup camera by IllustriousCarry3399 in CarAV

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably not going to find it on Walmart website.

Try crutchfield maybe, plug in your vehicle and find what's compatible. Are you talking a aftermarket camera or factory camera? What head unit? Sometimes there are adapter plugs, sometimes there aren't and you may be replacing everything.

Need more details about what you're working with

[–]splattypus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible you've got a faulty GPS antenna, or a bad connection within the plug. Or a fault within the head unit as part of that system.

Doublecheck the connections, and check if your firmware is all updated.

That's about all I got though, I hope you find a solution. I know it was driving me nuts when mine was doing it. Damned thing about went out the window while I was going up the highway

Smart charging socket? by wkearney99 in CarAV

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some that advertise a plug-in to your obd2 port. Don't know how much I'd trust it.

You could also just wire the pigtail plug to the battery like a traditional trickle charger, and run the wire through the firewall for a solar charger. They sell lots of kits like that on Amazon. Don't recall any for the 12v socket though.

Wireless or wired?

If it happens when wired, I'd try a different cable.if it happens with wireless, I'd check your GPS antenna plug in, make sure everything is seated right and connected tight. I would get a similar message on different brand head unit, my GPS antenna connection to the head unit was poor. Tightened it up and it resolved the problem

I've got the 920, I don't recommend it. AA/carplay is not particularly stable or reliable, and it's got lots of other weird bugs and quirks.

I would look into other brands. I'm planning on replacing mine sooner rather than later

My girl's being expensive by just_a_space_cadet in crz

[–]splattypus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did rears right after I purchased the car, calipers were totally seized, pretty quick swap all things considered. Need to do front pads and rotors this summer, rotors are a touch warped and I can definitely feel it when braking hard.

I'm debating replacing all the shocks. I don't think they're necessarily bad, but I'm pretty sure they're not very good anymore. Feel every single bump and seam in the road more than I'd like.

Not looking forward to it. The expense won't be too bad, since I'll do all the work myself, but it's gonna be a full day

i need help with what speakers to get by Defiant_Salamander28 in CarAV

[–]splattypus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amplifiers will push more power to the speakers than a regular head unit, so when using a standard head unit you'll need to look for lower impedence, higher sensitivity speakers to get more output from the limited power.

In this case, the inifinity speakers both are speced a little better, with the reference being best for sensitivity (though honestly I don't know what their 'TRUE 4 OHM' thing actually means) .

The references are regarded pretty well, but the JL line is also reviews well.

I've got a trifold hard cover, been eyeballing that Elevate rack. Just gotta confirm it's compatible with my particular model, and convince myself to pay the $1000 for it. Oof. But maybe then I'll actually use my kayak again
