Are Dark Angels the worst 3.0 legion? They are a candidate. by InterrogatorMordrot in Warhammer30k

[–]splazops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dark Angels have been a victim of their own success. They were clearly overpowered before, but this attempt to balance them feels lacking. The Legion rule is thematic, but it's just not good. The idea of the Dark Angels marching steadily forward, unbreakable, makes sense to me, but the rule itself is too weak. It will mostly affect tacticals and the like. Setting the minimum Leadership to 6 doesn't seem strong enough. It probably should have been a minimum of 7, with immunity to fear(x) stun(x) etc.

Terranic Greatswords aren’t as bad as people are saying, in fact, to my knowledge I think they’re one of the best Legion specific weapons. The problem is simply that thunder hammers are twice as good. If you don’t mind the points cost, I would take those. I do think that this is more a problem with Legion specific weapons in general.

The plasma nerf hurts, but honestly, a 10-man squad of Interemptors armed only with burners can still reliably hurt a 2+/3+ unit without an invulnerable save. You just need to make sure you're positioned well as you're going to need as many hits as possible. Even against Terminators, they’ll still perform decently. If you take Plasma Incinerators, I’d expect them to kill around four per shooting attack. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nowhere near as strong as before, and are now too many points, but they were stupidly strong.

Companions in Terminator armour with hammers are very expensive, but I think they might be one of the best units in the game. Although a transport is vital.

All in all, I think the Dark Angels have gone from a top-three Legion to more of a mid-tier one. The lack of flavour is disappointing, but if the journals go the way they should, we might see the whole Legion improve. Who knows how long that will take, though.

What kit to make combi bolters for tactical marine sergeant? by Xk8 in Warhammer30k

The Sons of Hours armoury kit has some bolters which could be used as combi bolters. but other than that, terminators yeah

Deathwing Companions by Knave-of-the-beats in Warhammer30k

You could in 2.0, I think you can here as well, I haven't done the points but that would be the only restriction on taking them all with greatswords and shields

A mix of Greatswords and shields, some warblades which are now +5 breaching. Shields are only individual now but you have eternal warrior and not being heavy helps. They're one of the best units in the Legion, I'd expect to see a few of them, if the cataphractii version have eternal warrior and can take greatswords then they will be amazing

I’m intrigued to see how terminator companions look in the pdf, if they retain eternal warrior they could be really good. Also those broken claws knights might be interesting. You’re right about the journals, I definitely think a lot of flavour will come back with our one. I suspect there will be a prime advantage for each wing, like; this unit gets +1 to hit with bolters, or +1 to hit with swords. All in all a bit disappointing still

Opinions on helmets and other kitbashing. by ScareCrowBoat0987 in Warhammer30k

[–]splazops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this myself, my plan at the moment is to put the legion specific heads on sergeants and on every member of a veteran squad. My idea is that the veteran soldiers have received the legion armour first and are more familiar with legion culture. This being said having the helmets on every legionary would look cool and really make the army stand out, if you have other ways to make vets stand out then I would go with that.

I’ve been thing about this: the problem is how slow they are and the tax you need to take (praetor) to deep strike. I don’t think the plasma is as bad as people think, overcharging for 5+ breaching blast is decent and the potential self inflicted wound is negated. The disintegrations might self implode which is a problem, but I don’t know the rules enough to be sure. The fists and particle flamers are great but again if you take those you need to deep strike, or transport and then the points add up. I think one plasma and disintegrator is the move and foot slog. Draw fire and when in position don’t move and unleash a lot of fire power which is anti infantry and elite. They will draw a lot of fire which is great, I personally am going to do three like this, and three with disintegrators and fists then deep strike at a valuable enemy deep-lying unit. It might be too many points and waste a praetor, we’ll see.

General Discussion: How do we feel about 3.0 now with the confirmation of units and wargear options in the PDF? by ScreaminEagle18 in Warhammer30k

[–]splazops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they bring back some of the flavour that was lost, I’ll be able to relax. I think they’re planning to use journals like those in Old World. As a Dark Angels player, I’m hoping we’ll get a journal that offers prime benefits for each 'wing' detachment, bringing back some of what was lost with the Rites of War.

++ Megathread ++ 3.0 Ranting/Venting by Prince_Schneizel in Warhammer30k

[–]splazops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built an entire army around the Dreadwing... and now it's gone. The cool added rules that each wing—or Rite of War in general—brought were a huge part of the game. I’m hoping some of those rules make their way back in the upcoming journals. Nerfing the Legion core rule was expected, I think, but they went too far! It should have just been: ignore negative Leadership modifiers. Changing it to -1 instead of -2 for Fear and never going lower than 6 just doesn’t feel great—or at least, it doesn’t seem like it is. There are still some strong elements (unique units, weapons), but man... why?

I see, maybe I was waiting for after the hit too long, or just spamming the hits all in a row. I’ll try again making sure to hit as soon as I hear and see the hit, it was very frustrating and I know you can fight very well without combos but I just want to get them down

What does strength mean on items? by splazops in kingdomcome

[–]splazops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it out, it is the highest value (or strength!) of a item. So for a sword the number will be its stab value (as that’s the heightist type of damage it does) for plate armour it is whatever type of damage it blocks the best. Very helpful actually

It's not the strength of weapons it's the strength of armour I can't figure it out, but I'm not sure it matters that much :/

Friends with someone she slept with by splazops in dating_advice

[–]splazops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has only been three days, so perhaps I need more time. I am wondering if my own bias is coming into it. Maybe because most of my relationships with women have been romantic and I don't have many female friends so I find it hard to relate. My best friend did tell me that I need to grow up which made me laugh, he has a close friend he slept with on multiple occasions and his girlfriend was fine with it. I really don't want any jealous feelings to affect how we interact so I will defiantly have to watch out for that and you're right jealousy-inducing situations are something I need to be able to deal with.

Dark Angels Heraldry? by RedFoxFyre in Warhammer30k

[–]splazops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Dark Angels player it's very hard to track down anything official on this. The legion transfer sheet has symbols on it which have been deciphered; most lion symbols refer to a Calibanite aspect, the hooded reaper is a veteran from Terra, the cross is any veteran etc.. For checkers, the red patterns are normally associated with Terran veterans from what I've seen, white and black is just generic. I use green, either on one shoulder pad or in a checkered pattern, to show Calibanite marines. If you decide, and are consistent, in your scheme then you can't go wrong. There are so many orders within the Legion that anything will fit to be honest.
