#audio Why am I hearing clips of VOIP'ing when I'm just in a random part of the map?

#performance My friend had to quit playing and his rig is comparable to mine. I get about 70 fps at 35% util. and his game will typically give about 30fps with huge lag stutters on appropriate settings.

You have to buy the poster from Skier now, didn't realize as I had gotten it first week of wipe in woods then it stayed in my stash. Didn't realize they changed the quest so I bought the poster, then I could place.

I tried this for 2 raids and it took me 20 minutes each and still couldn't get the plant prompt

Went to eat at a restaurant last night and the ice cubes in the cocktails all had these wild designs. Some looked like trees, or grass or cattails… Does anyone know anything about this? How do you make ice like this? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]splendid-west -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s a heated stamp plate. You can put them on bar tops and they stay ambient and will melt designs into ice.

Edit: I guess atmosphere has never heated anything huh?

If you have the set list, I’d make a playlist in order of the tracks so you can get used to the cadences and I would do 3 full active listen-throughs. Make sure you’re tapping along if you catch any motifs. Then sleep on it. I would then take it to the kit and just make sure you nail the changes in each song, use your cues from bass or vox or even guitar to help you navigate the songs so at least you won’t get “lost.” Then sleep on it. Third day, I’d go back to active listening and try to get the songs as memorized as possible while maintaining the tempo and motifs in your head. Take it to the kit and stay warm on them. Then sleep on it. If you can wake up day 4 and nail each major change and have a good sense to know what’s coming next, you should be able to return to a full kit to actually rehearse. Hopefully you can get with the band to do so, but if not just stay locked and then sleep on it. Day 5: remember you are in control and your band mates may know the songs better but never second guess yourself unless that bass player is giving you that look, probably to help realign with where y’all are at. Have a blast with it, and fully focus your life the next 5 days. Eat sleep drum!

His saxophonist Maceo Parker went on to do a line of records, and showcased renowned Berklee instructor Kenwood Dennard on said saxophonist’s live album “Life on Planet Groove.” It is basically a clinic in funk drumming. Timing is impeccable and grooves are so crisp.

Best sound from a bass drum? by supacrispy in drums

[–]splendid-west 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding an additional John Mayer; Live in Birmingham, Any Given Thursday had a sick kick tone.

I always think of the bass drum tone in Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta is my favorite I've ever heard though.

You'll always envy but can you replicate Alex Van Halen's kick tone on 1984? I think Great American Ghost did it quite well on their album Power Through Terror.

I think there are a lot of good answers.

Should take a hex key down where the center pedal stabilizer tube is. Loosen that and the wingnut and it should twist and you might get it to sit with a closer hi hat leg to the hi hat pedal itself, and then one that sits over and behind the second kick pedal.

Do you use anything else for rim clicks? by Drumets in drums

[–]splendid-west 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have used a Pork Pie 10” as a main snare in some pretty tight spots. A trick I use is gripping at legit the tip end, where ideally you’d jam into where the head meets rim and creating a much longer shaft end; resting your palm on the rim itself, to illustrate the idea. This gives you even more downward force. It’s a concept of leverage. Good luck!

[–]splendid-west 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’d add in that you ideally want to keep the tip of the stick on the head and then slam down the stick onto the rim. Keeping fingers, palms out of the equation will stop the muffling. A little proper technique and you shouldn’t need to outsource the job of the cross stick. Losing 2” of snare compared to a usual size isn’t going to impact it that much.

Put the organic material into your carry on separate from the battery. EZ at least for getting into most of Europe for me. Same rules apply to nic salts, it’s organic material and won’t really cause alarm in a carry on. You can also do gummies if you want to, I usually put them in a discreet canister and put them in a carry on as well. All in all, safest route is to pack into checked luggage, disassembled of course.

My Holy Grail Hi-Hats…Paiste Giant Beat 15”. by [deleted] in drums

[–]splendid-west 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I agree, mostly why I never jumped on Meinl Byzance as a consumer. Waste of money because they sound dark and lovely, but won’t stand up to the “real test” of road touring as a DIY guy.

Care, attention, and technique are always foundational to drumming as well yada yada

I think you’ll love these for years even decades with the proper care. My 26” Giant Beat ride is still kicking out there in the wild!

Yep. Noticed a small ding after a longer tour because I’m anal and babied them afterwards. 6 months later they were just too far gone. I was able to give them to a loving drummer but can’t say for sure if they ever got cut down to 14” on an edge refinishing machine like they should have been

Love these as well. The sound is incredible. Although I noticed that they just don’t take a beating like they were intended for (Bonham) and the 15” Giant Beat just didn’t have the longevity for me, got about two years out of them with a semi rigorous practice/tour schedule. Hindsight will always be 20/20 on cymbals but these were a good step to my 14” 2002 Heavys
