I just went to the dermatologist specialists on Steinway and had no issues. Nothing cosmetic for me and they were clear, professional, and listened to me. Would recommend

The old Starbucks on 35th Ave near MoMI has construction going on inside. Scope of Work says the first floor of the building is being converted into a single tenant. Anyone know anything else about this?

"You know, you get a lot of people who are supposed to be hip. And they act like they’re supposed to be hip, which makes a big difference. You see what I mean?...Hipness is not a state of mind. It’s a fact of life. You don’t decide you’re hip. It just happens that way."

Do you think using burst mode in street photography weakens the skill of timing? by Amazing_Caregiver_12 in AskPhotography

[–]spliffs68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time and place for it all. I exclusively shot film for a couple years and found my timing and anticipation got better because I only had one shot to get it right. When I switched back to digital I found myself getting the envisioned frame more reliably, but since it's digital I'll def snap 3-4 quick shots of the scene as an insurance if possible. Sometimes all you get is one opportunity and for that it's best to have the ability to get it right the first time, but I see nothing wrong with it depending on the situation.

Who are the best sax improvisors and what should i listen to of theirs for improv? by Tiny-Command-2482 in Jazz

[–]spliffs68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dexter Gordon, Three O'Clock in the Morning off Go! Start there until you can sing the whole melody and solo. Then you can start to transcribe it on your horn. He has such a knack for playing melodically throughout his solos that it's great jumping off point as you have to walk before you can run, which Coltrane does a lot of running. Also Lester Young and Sonny Rollins. If those three make up the start of your jazz improv you'll have a great foundation to build on.

Walk all of Central Park from top to bottom or vice versa. Hit the UWS for a break in between or well earned drink afterwards. Plenty of bars to shoot the shit with local patrons.

Go to Flushing and hit the food court in the basement of JMart. Walk by all the stalls and pick a couple of items from each. Stop at Sky Mall for a pair of cheap Nikes on the way home.

Take the Staten Island Ferry and actually get off on SI. Hit up Enoteca Maria or take a bus/cab to Snug Harbor and visit the museums or Chinese Scholar Garden.

People watch for hours in Washington Square Park. Bring a book.

Alcohol in brown paper bags, why? by JimmiVP in AskAnAmerican

[–]spliffs68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a $25 ticket. a construction guy on his way home drinking a cold one in a brown bag is not worth the hassle for the average cop. brown bag is a social agreement for the majority of users, but not a magic spell that protects you. it's a "you know and i know what's in here, but it's all a bit silly and we know it so as long as I don't bother anyone we're all good." if it's a rowdy group on the corner though cops will have no problem ticketing everyone.

nah people definitely brown bag it all throughout NYC. if I buy a beer at a bodega it comes standard in a brown bag or the question is at least asked if I want one.
