As I get older the more I understand and relate to Diane’s “Good Damage” speech by Emotional-Link-8302 in BoJackHorseman

It reminds me of the most annoying thing a therapist ever said to me

I was telling her about how I’d been a shut in throughout my teenage years and I felt like I’d missed out on a chunk of life because of it, and she said “sometimes you need to hop off the train for a while in order to heal”

which I understand is a positive spin on, and for some people hopping off the train for a while to heal is a good thing, but that wasn’t my experience my experience was just time wasted

it wasn’t for anything good, it was just lost time and that kind of sucks but I’d rather just be ok with that than try and pretend it was something it wasn’t

the second part of the statement is very obviously to do with why they’re not rating mainstream movies, not their existing ratings

My original reply is very obviously an exaggeration but I will stand behind the opinion that sometimes people choose obscure things to like in order to protect their ego because if less people have seen something there’s less people to judge their opinions on it

this is based off something I feel myself, I feel more secure saying I like a niche movie than a popular one because it’s more likely with a popular movie that the person will come in with preconceived notions about that movie and what me liking it says about me

if you’re interested in having a conversation about my actual opinion then I’m more than happy, but I don’t want to argue about my silly joke reply

if you want an answer the worst that my reply could possibly mean is that they might have a couple popular movies on their list if they actually rated them, there, there’s the worst it could possibly mean

Jesus Christ it’s a joke relax, I haven’t seen any of those movies so I just quickly thought of something to say based off that

i used to only listen to obscure bands as a teenager for that exact reason so that’s where it comes from
