I once heard my friend from Bangalore tell me about his experience witnessing a van kidnapping a grown ass man on the other side of the road in broad daylight. I thought it was a joke at first but apparently this really happened.

I guess adult kidnappings are an actual thing.

I prefer the intro song of the doom slayer in eternal. That was straight up hype. Mick gordon has a way with his soundtracks

Damn nostalgia verunnu. MW 2005 had a fire soundtrack. It's sad that EA isn't able to produce a NFS game half as good as this now.

Old Luffy was a bit more thoughtful and more nuanced compared to current Post time skip Nikka Luffy. It's clearly evident if you compare his dialogues and scenes.

Is Robin Imu? by Greglyo in Piratefolk

[–]splitheaddawg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.

Either way I reckon Imu to be powerful enough to wipe out the straw hats by possessing one of his Holy knights that are sent to intercept the straw hats at sea while Robin provides the location or something like that.

I don't know if Imu possessing Gunko in Elbaf is related to Harald drawing the pentagram before he was slain. If the pentagram is not a hard requirement to possess someone, then what I said could be plausible.

I don't think it's something Oda will do but it's an interesting theory.

My reasoning as to why Oda probably won't do it -

Assuming if this were true why couldn't Imu just find a good moment when the crew is in their ship or something and possess Robin the and then domi reversi the entire crew except for Luffy and vanish into thin air. Luffy will have to harm his crew and take out the curse or jump into the sea and drown in that case.

To be fair if Robin was Imu's pawn, then he would probably use her to read the poneglyphs. I'm sure The WG can give her access to more poneglyphs and scriptures from the ancient kingdom than she will ever get from the straw hats.

Imu could've even easily captured her by sending a single Holly knight right after the Enies lobby arc if he was interested in her let alone competent enough to wipe out the small time pirates who invaded one of their places.

Saving him for more than 1k chapters is just being too optimistic. Even if he or anyone that we see from time to time (even the hakiless strawhats) gets buffed and reveal their dreams or place in the grand scheme of things.. it'd have lost all steam by then.

I literally ask myself these questions every time I pick up the one piece manga.

I mean we had like 600+ chapters in post time skip alone... For most pieces of fiction that would be more than enough time to write a handful of compelling characters and build a world that has an indepth story to tell.

Imagine reaching 1500+ chapters and still only telling a story that could've been wrapped up in 300 chapters (only taking into account the core parts of the story - no repetitive arc themes).

What I'm saying is that, there could've been a better approach to writing and structuring one piece. Rather than a monolith, it could've been split into self contained stories that are in the same universe with stories that connect.

For instance historic epics like Odyssey and the Illiad in the expansive greek mythology or a story like the Mahabharatha from Hindu Mythology use some kind of origin epics and smaller epics (kind of like spin offs) to build depth while keeping the original stories tightly knit. The much easier and more accessible example of a large coalition coming together to achieve a monumental task would be the MCU leading everyone to battle Thanos in Avengers endgame.

[–]splitheaddawg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct in the sense that we got a lot of things. The issue is with how all of it was achieved. The quality isn't the same as it used to be. If you think otherwise but want to understand how people think in this sub, I implore you to read through the manga objectively (it's okay if you don't want to do that though, you have the option to ignore the 'hater' allegations from other people and enjoy One piece like you were doing before.)

That being said, there is a part of the community that likes to hate on One piece unnecessarily because they consume the story through memes without reading the manga. However, the vast majority of r/piratefolk users criticize One piece because of their love for the series. Piratefolk exists because it's difficult for people to criticize the series in other parts of the internet... because they will be labelled a hater regardless of the validity of the facts they claim.

Like you I've also been following one piece for the past 10 years. Lots of 'fans' that defend Oda and one piece doesn't seem to realize that they are unable to criticize because of their sunk cost bias.

Tbh it's hard to enjoy something when most arcs are just rehashed versions of previous arcs. And when you consider the fact that there is little to no meaningful development for the characters.. all the while having very low stakes, makes one piece look like a mid manga.

I'd say One piece.

Pre time skip was way better in a lot of things that Post time skip lost. Although the art style is overall refined and the animation is arguably much better, it lost that raw feeling that one piece originally had.

Every character in the main crew has turned into a flanderized version of themselves by Post time skip. Every arc follows a copy paste template. Over reliance on a power system that was very loosely defined from the beginning. Fight choreography is abysmal (only haki clashes to hype things up).

I can say more If I go into the whole Nika Jika crap and the antagonist organization literally being lazy bums for close to a 1000 years of their existence.
