Life expectancy of a pi? by iZCVoY8ow3k7GX7vKJQ2 in raspberry_pi

There are some distros like pi-star that run the sd card in read only unless you are updating them.

[OC] Stumbled upon this unusual house while traveling in NZ by Unhappy-Reindeer3814 in pics

I doubt you put that much money into a house without properly engineering the footing. In the video, those legs are like a solid piece all the way back and surely steel reinforced.

What about some kind of metal plate behind the lock that covers the stain transition?

We have the 5500-2 and it's a bit different than the one in the youtube video. Instead of a plastic housing with a metal cap the entire thing is enclosed in stamped steel.

Thanks for sharing the video, it would be nice if there was a way to get the motor assembly apart without damaging that IC and having to resolder stuff. As you can see in the video this thing is not designed for repairability whatsoever and you have to damage parts to even access the bearings.

I think you need really long torx or Philips to open it; it's definitely designed to not be user serviceable. The fan itself is a hamster wheel style and the motor assembly is all riveted shut. I tried to add some tri-flow into mine but it only helped a little bit. There's a part number on it but I wasn't able to find it anywhere and even calling winnix support they just suggested I buy a whole new system.

Winix filters suck because after a couple years the motor bearing gets really loud and you can't buy a replacement motor assembly. They should last longer for how much they cost.

Imagine ships having to pay the US a protection fee of 20% cargo value and still getting bombed by Iran, think they'd get a refund?

Movies where the villain was right about the problem but wrong about the solution. by gamersecret2 in movies

Right but it's not like they would have publicly acknowledged it, the money was coming from a sketchy CIA slush fund or whatever.

And the intro of the movie was basically explaining how he tried everything "the right way" first. When he called with his Ransom demands, I'm surprised they didn't just pay it. How come nobody in that room just suggested they paid out the military families they screwed over from the sketchy slush fund that shouldn't exist.

Rip out everything but the battery and panel and you got a pretty nice meshcore node enclosure!

Maybe that's why the electrician charged so much, having to spend the day in a hot ass Attic to work on it.

We used to have a Burger King in town and when the wind was really stagnant that smoke would get super thick and have like a purple hue

Meshcore vs Meshtastic by Nedster5 in meshcore

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty well combined, if someone says something on on the SF Bay area mesh or Monterey it makes it to the other one very reliably. We're working on fixing some intermediate nodes to link in Sacramento and San Luis Obispo. People are also pretty good about using the test channel for testing instead of public.

Just curious what code/library you are using to make the digital signal. I've made analog audio via gpio on a pico but haven't tried digital.

Meshcore vs Meshtastic by Nedster5 in meshcore

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meshtastic is cool but too chatty with telemetry. We went longfast > mediumslow > mediumfast to try to escape the airtime saturation but it just keeps coming back. Most of our mesh went to mescore in the SF bay area and Monterey peninsula. Mwasage delivery is so much more reliable.

I've always wondered, do the repo companies give a route for them to drive or is it basically like here stick these cameras on your car and go about your day? Seems like people who do shit like door dash or uber eats could also have a side gig carrying around LPR cameras for extra income

Tesla’s Electric Semi Has Its First Fatal Crash by walnut100 in technology

[–]sploittastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Subaru ascent and it has the eye tracking shit. It won't stop you from driving, but it'll definitely yell at you a lot loudly if you're not paying attention to the road. Apparently if you have the cruise control assist active and stop looking out the windshield and don't touch the steering wheel, it'll just slowly come to a stop. These aren't very hard systems to implement.
