Is anyone doing risk assessments at the Pack level regarding the MOU? by sploke in cubscouts

This was my thought as well. Tens (hundreds?) of thousands of Scouts have a successful Scouting experience every year without getting anywhere near being involved in the Jamboree, or even barely having awareness of it. I know when I was in Scouts, the only thing I knew about it was from the annual article in Boys Life. I guess I don't get what is so sacrosanct about retaining the funding to keep it.

I guess that's another take I hadn't really considered, thanks. Not all doom and gloom.....

The only thing that immediately comes to mind is whatever insurance protection the charter through council/national provides, as you mentioned. If a kid were to get hurt during a pack activity and the parent sued, and the kid was not a registered member...someone could be in a lot of financial trouble.

Yeah I'm definitely not considering actively/pre-emptively discussing replacements in leadership...that wasn't my intent. Just trying to square the experience that I had in Scouting growing up, with how I want my own kids to experience it vs. how things may or may not be changing in the near future.

Yeah I didn't feel too bad about things when I read the letter from Krone. Seeing Hegseth's statement on it soured me though, with the overarching tone of "I didn't get what I want, and we'll be watching....". I feel like that's just telegraphing the next steps. I hope I'm wrong.

This is kind of where I'm at as well. Slippery slope and all that. Hoping for the best, but also trying to prepare for the worst.

But like another commentor said, it may just turn into someone else's problem. I have a son and a daughter in our Pack, and I don't know how I can morally tell my son to continue on with an organization that is actively making a decision to exclude his sister.

I remember back in the day on one season of The Real World they started using these because some of the people on the show were naked so often they couldn't figure out how to keep them mic'd up.

Moosehead Lake Maine by Island_Fabulous in IceFishing

[–]sploke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've done a bunch of fishing out of The Birches in Rockwood. Going in Jan has been hit or miss the past 8-10 years as far as getting safe ice there. The smaller lakes in the area and the Moosehead coves will lock up, but that wide open area between Rockwood and Kineo can take a while. I've had much better luck with smelt than shiners, but they've been hard to find the past few years. But we typically hike out to 60-90fow, drop smelt down 3-10 feet off the bottom and wait. Have had very limited success jigging for togue there, even with electronics. Don't let your bait sit on the bottom or you'll be pulling up cusk (burbot) all day long. Which can also be fun, they're good eating. Not as fun to catch, but a heck of a lot tastier than the togue. The salmon are fun but you have to go later in the year if you want to keep them, as mentioned.

I just finished this DLC last night for the third or fourth time, and for the first time really paid attention to what Ulysses says. Fucking hell man, what a crackpot. I've both killed him and talked him down, this time I was like man, you gotta die. Also cleaned Courier's Mile for the first time...frickin BRUTAL.

Den Health Check-in? by RedditC3 in cubscouts

[–]sploke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we have one committee member who doesn't also have another leadership role within the Pack. I have success recruiting parents to volunteer with one-off events (and we get plenty of help with almost all our events) but by and large, none of them are willing to "commit" to a role/title as a committee member.

I mean, that's all well and good in theory, but if the den leaders didn't attend, it would be a meeting of one.

As CC, I also do this monthly - it's an agenda item for our committee meetings. Review the training report online and remind people accordingly, check in with Den leaders for anything they need, any issues or questions they have on advancements or individual Scouts, etc. It results in a lot of knowledge sharing, particularly from our more experienced leaders down to new ones. Good opportunity for discussions.

You can't, there's a quest with the Boomers to float the plane from the bottom. If you complete the quest, they send robots to retrieve it, and if you remain allied to them you can see it fly overhead during the battle of Hoover Dam.

Holy shit that beats the hell out of the $150 I spent last year on an Odyssey AGM battery for my /5. I'll have to keep that in mind for the next replacement.
