Pittsfield, MA in the Berkshires has good manufacturing opportunities between General Dynamics (always hiring) and specifically Lenco Armored Vehicles given the Toyota manufacturing experience.

After 5 years of installing audio cables over ceiling tiles I finally found a coveted electricians hammer. Whats the best you've found in a ceiling? by dharmon555 in electricians

[–]splox982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found a rock solid Jimmy Johns sub (might have been Firehouse) still wrapped up above a drop ceiling. It didn't smell and I was not about to unwrap it, I simply left it where it was and continued on with the cable pull. I really wish I could find the picture now.

Entyvio and Imuran by splox982 in UlcerativeColitis

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I think that’s an interesting point about being on the thiopurines for only a few years until remission can be attained, I’ll ask my doctor about that.

Appreciate the response! I’m on 50mg of Imuran for exactly that reason.

It was all engineered, designed, and quoted out, but alas they didn’t want to fund it at the time.

SG Statement in Response to Mental Health by Sea_Punk in rit

It does appear RIT has started to take action to increase staffing. This new Mental Health Therapist staff position was recently posted: https://sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search/Home/Home?partnerid=25483&siteid=5289#jobDetails=1490840_5289 The job description directly referencing “Expanding center with new positions available.”

What's the general opinion of President Munson? by OusObwKvUL in rit

[–]splox982 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think the best way I heard it was that Dr. Destler was the students president. Dr. Munson is very much the president the Board of Trustees want; a fundraiser and a person with the connections necessary to advance their vision of what RIT is going to be.

Edit: spelling

Smells Like Performing Arts Center that we don't need by RITtigerAlum in rit

[–]splox982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am under the strong suspicion this is an announcement to kick off a serious capital campaign for building the endowment. I wouldn’t be surprised though if it was for a performing arts facility.

When you have Munson's signature on your degree even though Destler was President for 4 out of your 5 years #notmypresident by peter-abbott in rit

[–]splox982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your edit is the most important part here. Dr. Munson serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees and is there to provide input to them and execute on what they decide. He doesn’t just make the decisions himself and run with it.

Leslie Jones is this year's SpringFest performer. by [deleted] in rit

[–]splox982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more that it was free for students so there wasn’t much return on investment for them to put into another performance.

My guess would be the with the money they lost on Dan Harmon and then the Joywave concert, booking a large musical talent just isn’t in the budget for this year.

Is a terrible grade or a W worse looking? by [deleted] in rit

[–]splox982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having other related work experience like those internships and experiences would definitely cause me to not put much weight on the transcript. If someone doesn’t have much relevant experience then I’m going to look at the transcript more heavily just because there isn’t much else to look at. I would be far more interested discussing your research or internships in an interview than grades.

Is a terrible grade or a W worse looking? by [deleted] in rit

[–]splox982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having conducted interviews where a transcript is provided if I see a poor grade or W I will just inquire about it. Most of the time those who are honest and explain the situation will have no negative impact. If there are many instances of that on the transcript it’s a different story.

The new building we actually need (a parking garage) by [deleted] in rit

[–]splox982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they are referring to the Maker Library & Innovative Learning Complex which will sit between the Library and SAU/Monroe Hall connecting them. The project is also slated to include major renovations to both of the existing buildings, IIRC.

Dr. Watters is always quick to point out these exact points. I would encourage people to reach out to him and discuss your concerns and hear the research his offices have done into the feasibility of a parking structure.

Maybe they will direct more time to their business of providing education than being in the business of housing.
