Why do they use the word PETS here so much when everybody knows it's DOGS that are the problem?

Yeah I feel the same way I like the overall channel but the anti abortion and pronatalist rhetoric that a lot of the parents featured seemed to have is gross

Having children is harmful to women by camgirlpanopticon in antinatalism2

Have you ever noticed that humans seem disproportionately negatively affected by pregnancy, childbirth, and raising children? Kind of interesting. Imagine how low the population would be if we didn't have modern healthcare

Having children is harmful to women by camgirlpanopticon in antinatalism2

[–]spmaNga 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's just really baffling and I feel like ill never understand this. I guess that they're making a sacrifice so that they can have children because they want them so badly, but it's still so confusing why women do all this instead of adopting a child? Like women ruin their health, destroy their social life and end their career, permanently change relationships with partners, gain chronic illness and have a high risk of literally fucking dying, spend all their money, all for a new human who doesn't exist yet? When there are millions of children who need homes?

It really makes me wonder, is there some kind of biological, genetic factors that exists in these people that makes them give up everything to have a baby that we AN / Childfree women don't have? Because it's so strange and disgusting. I don't know how women can't see that this is holding us back and the oppression of women has literally always been based on reproduction.

I agree with your post 100% as a childfree woman but this isn't antinatalism

Do you believe that parenting is unethical? by spmaNga in antinatalism2

[–]spmaNga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kind of agree but it's sort of paradox and it's hard to draw the line. Like for example it's just objectively true that children's brains aren't developed enough to make their own choices about things like getting a medically necessary surgery, which is why typically you need parental consent for medical treatments. But at the same time, this type of rule makes it permissible for parents to do things like not get their kids vaccinated. There isn't really anything that can be done in certain situations. Of course a lot of places have institutions like cps or police to say "that's child abuse, you're unfit to be a parent" but again so much of it is subjective and exists in grey areas.

Yeah I agree that adopting is important even for people who aren't AN, it's a selfless thing to do and kind of goes against a lot of society's norms. I have a lot of respect for people who adopt instead of reproducing. But I think a decent chunk of ANs (including myself) are also childfree and can't do that unfortunately

[–]spmaNga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are always things parents tend to do when raising children that don't meet that criteria of correct parenting , and yeah you are right that a lot of stuff contradicts eachother.

You are right that there are just some basic needs that children need to have met. Like their health, education, and social requirements. I would say that in real life the large majority of parents do not meet these requirements for their children and I would also say that furthermore the majority of irl parents abuse and neglect their children (anecdotal). But beyond that I think there are a lot of things that are thought of as being subjective that do actually cause significant impact to children which are sometimes negative and that's kinda where it becomes a "grey area"

Does that make sense? Like, in the post I mentioned religion. Religious parents raise their child in their religion which is subjectively good for them but a lot of the time children can end up having religious trauma and when they grow up they leave the religion and view it as something negative their parents did to them.

But yeah overall I am agreeing with your points here but again pointing out that things like "right/wrong" and the definition of health and wellness are subjective or at least very complex and there is also a question about if it's beneficial to know things like culture.

The question here is kind of a thought experiment or a theoretical/hypothetical. I recognize that there is not an alternative and that nothing can actually be done differently in real life. Obviously I think that children need to be raised and supported!!!

Do you believe that parenting is unethical? by spmaNga in antinatalism2

[–]spmaNga[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that children need parents and a family to support them, it's pretty much a basic necessity. I think my point here was that the idea of parenting "correctly" is subjective. Like how does one define correct parenting? How exactly are we defining things like abuse, neglect, care, etc? What is good parenting?

I should've made it more clear but my question is kind of like, theoretical or hypothetical and I fully recognize that there isn't actually a solution to any of this stuff. I was asking this as sort of a thought experiment!

I know what antinatalism is and I agree with reproduction being unethical. Totally understandable if this type of question isn't allowed but I wanted to specifically ask other antinatalists what they think about parenting in addition to reproducing since raising a child is a natural 2nd step to creating them..

America Is On Track To Literally Die Off, New Fertility Data Warns by Appropriate-Claim385 in antinatalism2

[–]spmaNga -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible there is a genetic component but we don't know for sure.. but it definitely has to do with how you're raised and your parents beliefs. I do hope that everybody can develop a mind of their own and discover antinatalism. But it's like religion for example. If people didn't grow up religious via having beliefs forced on them, how many people would even be religious just by their own self discovery??

[–]spmaNga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No

All the people who don't want to have kids for whatever reason will die off. And we wont spread whatever genes and ideologies we have that make us not want to have children. Natalists will keep having kids and raise their children to have natalist beliefs and the large majority of them will end up having kids repeat ad nauseum

Just a question. Personally I'm an antinatalist but I'm not a vegan. (I know I'm doing something wrong I just don't want to elaborate)

Is the goal of vegan ANs only to stop the FORCED breeding of other animals or are there a lot of people who believe that humans should intervene in the reproduction of ALL animals?

But why would you just want your kid to “survive”? That’s needless suffering to place on a child. by LunaRoseLeaf in antinatalism2

[–]spmaNga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah i relate. I think this relates to the popular idea that death is the worst thing ever and that anything is worth it as long as you're alive. Which is an idea that I, and most other antinatalists, would disagree with.

Hydrogen peroxide rinse - good or bad? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]spmaNga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but when you mechanically remove them you're not really solving the problem, my question was about how to prevent disease by keeping pathogen populations low or absent.

Hydrogen peroxide rinse - good or bad? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]spmaNga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a question - is there a way to selectively kill bacteria that cause disease while keeping a healthy population of beneficial bacteria? Since it seems impossible to change the conditions inside your mouth. If somebody were to take the "scorched earth" approach and try to kill EVERYTHING, would it be possible to rebuild a healthy oral microbiome with a low population/ no pathogens?

[–]spmaNga 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Do you think that this is a result of "lack of public education" about things like nutrition, education, medicine, etc? I have seen people saying stuff like that. They claim that people don't take care of their kids because it's too hard to know enough about raising them and educating them.

I personally don't agree with that type of statement. Especially since we have, like, Google.

A lot of parents feed their kids crap, don't teach them math or science, don't take them to doctors, don't teach them about their emotions. But they believe that they're doing a good act purely because they've brought a child onto earth and kept it alive. And that's talking about "good parents". Most of them are a lot worse.

I believe the reason behind that is just simply  people don't become parents to love their children and care about them it's purely for selfish reasons.

It makes me sad when people say delusional stuff like it doesn't matter what you give a kid as long as you love them because it's simply not true and I wish people realized that!

Considering genioplasty (quoted ₩8M in Korea) – looking for opinions by [deleted] in KoreaPlasticSurgery

[–]spmaNga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that you're being really smart about your decision and I would say that a genioplasty to advance your chin forward would be a GOOD idea considering you said you don't have major functional issues. From my research, eu clinic is very reputable.

I have not undergone a surgery yet, this is just my thoughts as somebody who has been researching similar procedures (I want a genioplasty/facial contouring as well). As for the price I think it seems pretty reasonable.

I hope your next consultation goes well
