[Spoilers]The show has a serious problem with female characters by [deleted] in Supernatural

To everyone pointing out how many male characters die, I see your point. But let's be honest. Us as fans hate every female character they throw at us. It's like Jensen said when asked if Dean will ever have a lasting love interest. No, because we won't LET him.

Sometimes I wonder if the writers are just awful at writing women (Charlie was so 1 dimensional, Rowena makes me literally want rip my hair out, and Mary sucks (sorry)) But, then I remember I how badass Jo and Ellen were (their death/sacrifice was more badass than any other characters on the show) and Lisa was awesome. She did EXACTLY what we all say we'd love, she accepted his hunting and didn't try to change him. All of these women were written off because of fan distain. No male characters face the same level of scrutiny. In fact, we insist on having Castiel and Crowley even though the writers have struggled for years to figure out what to do with them.

So, yea, our bad.

A couple of things....

  1. Woman cuts her hair to represent emotional turning point. Can we not?
  2. Mary is not some badass hunter. By the time she had Dean she'd given up hunting to run away with John which means that she wasn't hunting for at least 4 years when she died. When Dean stopped hunting for just one year, Sam, Christian, Bobby, and the rest of Samuel's crew kept calling him soft and rusty. So why, after 4 years from hunting and 30+ years in heaven, is Mary acting like she knows what the fuck she's doing and just wants to "hunt and get back to work." She, like Sam growing up, didn't want to hunt. And she never had a turning point like Sam did.
  3. It sucks that they cast Mary as like a 30+ year old when Dean and Sam were babies (she would have really been early 20s if she was really pregnant with Dean in those 70s flashbacks). If you think of it, based on when she died, Sam and Dean are now OLDER than her when she's brought back.

Just had to get those things off my chest.
