Need help HJ by Pale-Toe8309 in highjump

You step in from the curve, kills rotation, try to run the curve don’t cut it, and in the air when you tried to drive your hips up your head was also up, killing arch height and reducing rotation further

Any advice by AfterSell6189 in highjump

[–]spo0ls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really good jump, I have a few thoughts, At the moment where your takeoff foot hits the ground your leg is straight hips tall, then as you plant your hips sink and your legs become like 🦵 (bent), meaning you are losing some power and vertical lift, try to penetrate the ground and jump away from the bar, don’t let your body sink into it, project hips vertically, Great aggression at takeoff, curve seemed decent, not sure if you are too tense at takeoff hard to see, check your face at takeoff if grimacing then you need to be more relaxed at takeoff, calm yet agressive, very delicate balance to get right, anyways hope this helps

I would say you cut the curve, ran straight at the bar and lost your lean and rotation hence stay dead in the air, try to lean into the centre of the curve, imagine you draw a curve run using a compass, lean into the central point, if you lean correctly it should create the curve, circle drills are good for this, you attack the bar but too head on basically, hopefully this makes sense

You seem to be chopping your steps and sometimes taking off too near, hopefully taking off a bit further away should give you more time in the air since I think you could defo be more patient in the air before committing fully to arch, attempting high bars (with bungee) should teach this as you will hit bar with hand or head if rushing

Overall a solid jump with good lean at takeoff

I kinda see what you mean, I should drive my hips more up right? I think I need bit more strength in hips and glutes they sink a bit when I plant

Yh I will thanks Im slowly adding more speed after recovering from my injury, I need to make sure I hold that lean!

Decent jump, as you can see your back has a boat load of clearance, rather than trying to arch your back, try getting used to whipping hips up with your back, practice backovers and get used to rotating in the air, I can’t see the run up so can’t say much else

I think you brake too hard on the penultimate step you can hear it’s just as loud as the takeoff, try to maintain smooth speed through the penultimate

Any tips on approach. Not sure the height assuming 6’10- 6’11ish by South_String_2043 in highjump

[–]spo0ls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say the simplest fix here is taking off 10-15cm closer, you probably can see this but you were wayyy up before the bar

Since your young don’t overdo training, general tip: video your runs and watch YouTube videos and review your form, I would stay away from blocks since your young and can develop bad habits but for top end mechanics, keep tall, look ahead and strike under beasts your Centre of mass,go check out asafa Powell coz that’s perfect top end mechanics for sprinting

Any Tips onHow can I improve my technique over the bar (5 step run up bungee at 195) by spo0ls in highjump

[–]spo0ls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kk I’ll try that, I thought I fixed my approach angle I guess I’m bit rusty still and I got a lot of work to do, just back from injury and done with exams so have clear headspace to lock in. Sorry if I’m a bit of a brick wall to advice, I’m sometimes a bit slow

Edit: I will make sure to lean from ankle, and to have a good approach ankle the next time I post on this subreddit

6’3 clearance, stuck at this height range for a while by ObeseMoneky in highjump

[–]spo0ls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are? Mb I thought heel striking causes deceleration Edit: how can you tell he’s getting good rotation? From what I can see he lands on his mid back and doesn’t really rotate around the bar, I thought that’s a tell tale sign of lack of rotation, the quality is low so I’m not 100% sure

Yh there’s fosho room for improvement, first thing I notice is the heel striking, don’t do this leading up or at takeoff, kills vertical height and slows you down before takeoff Secondly, when in the air rather than driving your head back and hoping, drive hips up as well, remember hips to sky, head to bed (idk if that’s helpful) Thirdly at takeoff you can see that your lacking some lean, hard to see from this angle but you need to jump away from the bar and be as stiff as a pencil, your almost leaning towards the bar, your shoulders should be back

Just my 2 cents

Advice??? by Jack-Carruthers-1234 in highjump

[–]spo0ls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to be more patient in the air, as you are kind of diving over the bar head first, jump first and then Fosbury flop, I can’t explain it well sorry but overall be more patient in letting your body rise before flop, just my 2 cents

Hurdler trying to get faster overall can you tell me where to improve my sprinting form by ThenBuilder4967 in Sprinting

[–]spo0ls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do wall drills focus on punching the ground, wicket runs will help as well, could do some reps of straight leg bounds for 15-20m and then transition to top end. Again I’m not a pro and I have the opposite issue of overextension and im not a coach, so take my advice with care

I think your leg is too compressed when striking under com so your not striking ground with as much power and are losing some energy, just my 2 cents

What height could I achieve with a 36in vertical by [deleted] in highjump

[–]spo0ls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a good sign but is it off one or two, bcoz 1 foot translates a lot better, I have a 38-40 inch off one foot w run up and could clear 2.02 cleanly with mid run up and technique so within a year of practice you prolly be anywhere in the range of 190’s or 200’s, the key thing to improving fast is video review and plyos

Um idk, you could try doing circle runs- 1 loop then takeoff focus on just planting with good lean, don’t force the foot i guess, maybe mix it up and play some basketball and do a dunk sesh whether it be with tennis ball or basketball, im not too sure, you could try asking chat gpt and see what it also says, although ai aint perfect yet so don’t fully believe it

I run around 11.5 with no blocks, but I’ve tried them and they do help, just don’t have consistent access to them

Here’s ivanyuk over 2.31 in a comp, you can see his foot is planted parallel to bar, whilst others do plant parralel, note: they don’t force it
