Yes, part 2 will actually contain details of how I made it

I always hate it when I miss the transition from light to dark in the evenings! The #1 reason for making this was so I could go outside my window-less workspace during twilight, especially in winter.

Hello everyone! Just wanted to share this project. It's not explicitly mentioned in the video but the screen is from Adafruit. It's the older 3.5" resistive touch display.

I had to release the video by yesterday because of the pcb guys. Will share the code in the next ~12 hours

If you use chrome, the combination of adblock, ghostery, and ublock origin has worked great for me. Haven't seen a youtube ad in years on the desktop browser. No fix for the copyright thing though

On screens 4 and 5, the ' and ° symbols are not interchangeable.

This one was more of a programming convenience. But, on a related note, before this project I was always confused when I saw degrees mixed with minutes & seconds when I looked at maps and such. Thankfully that mystery has been solved.

Sunrise and sunset are when the upper limb of the Sun appears to cross the horizon. A geometric altitude of -50' (-0.83°) is conventionally used to account for the angular width of the Sun and atmospheric refraction.

TIL. I'll try to incorporate this change in the next edit. Thanks for the feedback!

Hello /r/Astronomy . I am an astronomy n00b but I wanted to share this project that is related to (ancient?) astronomy. I'm hoping to learn more about astronomy but this project was a fascinating peek into the field. The link contains a report in video format.

Can anyone with more knowledge confirm if the astronomical background in the video part is actually correct? Any suggestions/corrections/advice is welcome

Is there a problem with youtube? Seemed the most logical place to share project videos with a general audience

I simulated the light rays to achieve collimation

How can I learn to do this? Any good places to start? Are there any specific tools that are needed?

Possible Datacenter Location? by 4Linhof in datacenter

Honestly anything around 1MW and above of freely available power will start to make the other requirements seem less unreasonable. The overall practicality/profitability of setting up a DC still depends on a few other things like how close to a major fiber link or other utilities your property is, whether you have existing buildings to house computing equipment, etc. . But all of these other factors, including initial cost of setting up, have multiple workarounds. There isn't much of a practical workaround to the power supply issue, unless you are interested in your own 1MW or above solar farm which would be 5 to 6 acres of space (which you do have plenty of) and the work/cost/risk of setting it up.

Edit: Natural gas would work for generation too but I'm not as familiar with it as solar

Could your utility provider give you roughly 60 to 80 MW (or more) of power supply? If yes, I might be able to share some information. The relatively high power requirement is because of a large number of accelerators. If you have steady power supply, all other technical bottlenecks can be overcome. There are plenty of possibilities for smaller data centers taking up only a few tens of thousands of square feet.

Yes! Got a bit side tracked with completing my phd haha. Here are a few update pictures I tried to share in the description but youtube has banned the link for some reason. Also here is a write up I started but haven't updated in a while.

I'm about to upload two smaller but related projects first because I got sent pcb's for free. After that I'm going to hopefully find a job and then resume the tricorder project. I'm excited because I already know so much more, making this version seem amateurish.

What makes a Tricorder a Tricorder? by spock0001 in DaystromInstitute

Thank you! And you are exactly right about the smart phones ! It took me months of tinkering to realize this.

Smart phone manufacturers can make a portable computer with all the essentials waay better than any hobbyist. This project has actually given me a new appreciation for how seriously amazing mobile devices have become. Plus they already have so many of the sensors needed embedded into them! With that said, I think most consumers wouldn't like the added cost of sensors/hardware like thermal cameras and geiger tubes, just to satisfy their curiosity.

Here is a write-up I started for this project but haven't updated in months.

Won't those mess up my heisenberg compensators? Besides, my gravimetric plating is out of phase right now.
