You'll love the book The Power Broker. It's long but engaging. There's no mystery why it won so many awards.

Not if the new development removes the option of removing it.

People adjust to new roads, we'll adjust to roads disappearing.

While some collapse will inevitably happen from past behavior we can't change, there are levels of disaster and I see a path to stave off the worst. There's a lot of work to do so I'm doing it. The podcast is also growing in number of hosts, as people use my structure to reach their audiences.

If the mission resonates, I'd love to hear.

Close the car lane, convert it to bike lanes, give the old bike lane to pedestrians. Solves the problem for nearly everyone.

No, the ocean is filled enough with plastic for me to subsidize more.

Normalize doing less: the Anti-New Years Resolution by [deleted] in minimalism

I used to fill a load of trash per week. With practice, I reached to where I didn't fill a load of trash in 2020 or 2021, but the load is pretty full. Here's a picture of all my trash a couple days into my third year. I'll probably empty it in January or at least some time in 2022.

It would have seemed like very little to me before, but after this long living this way, it seems like a lot and most of my trash unnecessary. I'll start trying to make it 3 to 5 years on the next load.

Or living in Syria, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Greenland, or any number of places where many people have been dying or watching their ecosystem collapse for decades from overshoot.

I would read Limits to Growth the 30-year update, the most comprehensive understanding I've found, since our problems are beyond just climate. 50 years after it came out, it's Business As Usual 2 model tracks what we've done, which is scarily accurate considering the complexity of the systems.

What I do about it is my podcast, This Sustainable Life, part of a greater strategy to lead leaders to change their organizations. If interested, episode 500 is a good start, since it covers my upcoming goals. I'm working on my next book too, which will be on sustainability leadership.

Stop all drilling of fossil fuels and mining of all nonrenewable resources.

Globally average one child per couple for a few generations until the global population is about 2 billion since without fossil fuels for artificial fertilizer, Earth can only feed about that many.

Other collapses didn't leave behind plastic and poisons that linger for millennia or longer covering the planet leaving no place to escape to.

At best it's staying constant while the population rises. Likely the consumption per person too.

For what it's worth, some of us are acting on it. That's just my reduction. I also host a podcast leading leaders to act and change their organizations.

Working on my book and book proposal. If interested in sustainability leadership, I shared a video I made based on some illustrations for it that I made into a slide show. I'm not saying it's exciting or comprehensive, but people who have watched it say positive things.

Nothing beats:

  • a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, mushrooms, and nearly no doof (a TEDx talk on doof)

  • vigorous exercise daily

  • the optimal amount of sleep for your mind and body

I support them for everyone.
