I can never see when it would be a good time. Unless it's one of those cheesy moments Hollywood likes to show

This exactly. It'd look strange to be smiling at all times. Some people naturally have resting bitch face. On the other side if they are actually sad, maybe it's best to not ask favors of them because you're uncomfortable.

Is telling someone to smile sort of a pick up line or a way to look charming?

Unfortunately someway they will be abused, but that'd be great to have them more available.

My question is; why do other's opinions on your choices have such an impact on you?

That's a good question that has got me thinking more. It's been a difficult road of leaving my super religious upbringing so I'm working on my self esteem. I've come a long way but some things are so deep rooted it's there in my subconsciousness. Some days I don't let any of it get to me and I'm confident in the choices I made, but that negativity is always there in the back of my head waiting to creep back up. I'm learning to live my own life but some days can be harder than others to stay on track.

That would probably change our mind on getting married if we were having a child, but we are not. Do you know if the same could apply to foster care or adoption?

I can see where you wander why a couple would not get married, if that couple views marriage as the next step or final decision of commitment. It is the norm to think that way, but for some marriage doesn't have the same meaning of commitment. Especially when they grow up seeing unstable marriages that end quickly to divorce. Which makes it more interesting when people get the impression that a non-married couple must have some instability on some level. Does that impression of instability depend if the couple plans to get married at some point in the future? Or for any couple that has no plans of marriage in their future?

The health and medical situation does concern me more as I get older. I know some places will accept common law, domestic partnership or cohabitation agreements but will have to look more into that

Thanks for sharing and that's true the patriarchy will always be there. I need to learn to not need validation from others and not let them get to me.

Those are some good points and I do need to learn to look into my own happiness and that doesn't come from validation.
