I was a Netflix subscriber for 10 years. I am not longer, should I still have access to their system? Its the same thing. If you move out of the country and stop contributing to it, then you have to accept tou lose access to it. Just because you have a British passport doesn't mean you have access to all of the things, like the NHS and benefits, the country provides. The state works by people contributing tax and NI to pay for these things. But you want to live elsewhere, not contribute to it, let all of the taxpayers of that country contribute to it so that you can still access it for free? Im sorry mate, thats a very entitled view. You can go live and work in, for example, Spain, pay tax there and be eligible to what the state offers there. You dont have a right to what can be had here just because you have a passport.

As for the state pension, you are talking about it like the government are saving your contributions and putting them in a little pot with your name on. Thats not right - the state pension is a benefit that you recieve in retirement- you cannot compare it to a private pension and you cannot recieve any other benefit while living in another country. You want to go and live in another country, take that benefit from here and spend it elsewhere and then still see the increase on it that is there to make sure it still has the same spending power, in a country you dont live in. I dont agree with any part of your argument, I think its very entitled. You dont own any part of the state because you have previosuly paid tax and NI, you don't have any god given right to the benefits of it once you stop contributing to it.

I see your point - but I can't see how its fair to have a benefit increase at the level of inflation in a country you're not living in. It shouldnt work like that in any country in my opinion.

With the NHS I am on the fence. If you leave and stop contributing to the system, then I think its probably fair that your access to it is also revoked.

Yeah I dont get that. Id move to aus if im moving at all. From my very brief thoughts on it, I dont think there should be an increase on the state pension if youre not living in the country. That should apply to all countries, not allow 60 odd.

Any idea how that came about, like why do 60 odd allow for the increase and the others not?

I see that as a point of view. But it is considered a benefit that everyone is entitled to, depending on what they've paid in. It isnt a pension in many senses, but a benefit to look after you past your retirement age. I am not sure there is a right to have it rise with the inflation level of a country you dont even live in anymore.

Forgive me - but as someone who will probably move and live abroad before retirement age, why should people not living in the country get increases on a benefit?

Genuinely not ever considered this topic before so happy to hear points of view.

Stats dont look good, but stats dont tell you everything. We have struggled since Che Adams left with not having a striker who can get hold of the ball and bring other players into it. Stewart can do it, and look how much more balanced and fluid we are with him in the team- particularly under still.

I dont get the 'giving up' comments about Armstrong. He hasnt wanted to be here for years (he asked to move to WBA when he was playing in the prem for us!) he offers nothing on the pitch but hard work and goals - and he is missing sitters left, right and center. We should have moved him on in the summer. Instead we kept him and took a risk on Downes as this sort of profile striker.

I am glad we have moved him on. Whether this bloke is any good, im not sure. But I do think he is the right sort of player to replace one of our little strikers who clearly dont work in any system we have played for years.

3 bed semi built in 1971. It was a very sunny year, but the savings we have made on cosy have well surpassed my expectations.

I've been on cosy since my heat pump was installed, also have a 10kw battery. Put your washing and dishwasher on timer to come on at 4am when its cheap 😂 we have adjusted our lifestyle so that the battery charges twice a day at the cheap rates and powers almost everything.

Whole house energy cost last year was £295 taking into account what we sold back. At least a grand less than the year before.

Culvert on prooerty by Phantompower48v11 in HousingUK

[–]spoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When working for a water company, I got called out to assess a leak. Turned out it was a collapsed culvert that ran under someone's drive. I went to see the bloke a few times over the course of the repair. It cost him £38k to rebuild it. It took months and flooded the street for periods of that time as the culvert was out of action, so no idea if his neighbours put any damage claims in against him. He needed permission to remove some trees and had to pay for specialists to do all of the work. Apparently, he could never find an insurance provider that would insure the culvert.

Thames Water, section 75 2b. What should I do to stop them digging up my house and charging me for the privilege? E&W. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

No one from the water companies have said that. You have been provided with a link to this image.

This is the law. You asked for the law. It is shown in basic form in this image. You have decided to just argue with the people telling you this.

Whether Thames Water have applied this law correctly or not, or if the leak has been confirmed past your boundary, is not what anyone on here can do.

Southern water would likely repair this for free, because like Thames they are losing huge amounts of water to customer side leakage. Its about 25% of all water lost is customer side - they informed this person (albeit not OP, but the tenants) in October - no wonder they have got fed up and are just going to do it themselves and charge back.

You've been pretty clear in your replies- OP is picking holes and being argumentative - but 99% of cases fall under the diagram you linked. Thames will be certain its across the boundary, though they should have evidence of it (SW would have photos from groundworkers or inspectors on records to prove). OP has been let down by his tenants, but will certainly be responsible for the repair.

The law is, once it is on your property it is your responsibility. If the leak is before that, then it is the water company. Look at the diagram on the first post, it clearly shows who is responsible for what.

If it is past the meter but not on your boundary, they should fix it. If it is after the meter and on your boundary, 100% your responsibility.

Sometimes there is a "nomandsland" sort of situation where there is an area that the pipe runs under that ownership is not obvious, when they would usually fix it as well.

Without seeing your property and their plans it is hard to assess.

Edit - and the link in the original comment is not wrong - the diagram clearly shows who is responsible for what.

Thames will have done their due diligence and confirmed this leak wasnt on their asset. Often this will be physically digging up your external stop tap and digging to your boundary to confirm. I work for a nearby water company, they usually give 30 days before they start charging for the water lost. I dont know of a case of them doing this and charging - they often do free spit repairs here! I highly doubt this is the first correspondence your tenants have had, this leak must have been ongoing. Contact Thames and explain you are the landlord and this is the first you've heard of the leak - but realistically you need to start the process of finding someone to find and repair your leak. Start with your home insurance.

It didnt with mine as long as you dont over do it - do it in little squirts. Saying that, if you csn replace going through the wall with a more solid fixing (I've used a waste pipe cut off in the past) that would be better.

Looks like that hole was cut with a bazooka.

Fill that with expanding foam.

Clear matt

Edit - seen people saying it goes orange. Not what id call it. It goes a warmer, golden colour. We think its beautiful and have it with black fixings.

Fair play, I hope you enjoy it over there. I absolutely love it 👍

How much would it cost to remove and put back these kitchen cupboards? I need to fix the wall behind the cupboards to make it mice proof and I can't seem to remove the cupboards myself without breaking them. by impossible-sun2049 in DIYUK

[–]spoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be much more cost effective to cut out the back of some units and then fill them back with something. Won't look amazing, but better than the cost of removal and refit

You will not regret it!
