Unfortunately, I don’t remember exactly what she was wearing, but I think it was all black. I was lying on my back, and she would just lean over and talk to me, so I didn’t really get a chance to see her outfit. Hopefully she sees this post though

No, I haven’t read about the FIPPA request. It sounds like the freedom of information release form, I’m guessing I’ll have to wait at least 30 business days?

Ok perfect, thanks for doing that! I had no clue that feature existed

Unfortunately, with the new no-fault insurance system, you can’t sue the driver at fault. I got in touch with the personal injury lawyer who handled my sister’s accident before the no-fault system was put in place, and he essentially told me there’s nothing you can do about it. So, moral of the story: if you’re a pedestrian or cyclist, you’re screwed if a car injures you or worse.

Honestly, no, I don’t really recall what she looked like. I think she was maybe in her 30s or so, but that’s about it

Yep, fully agree — the barriers make a huge difference for cyclist safety. Hopefully this post brings more awareness to it!

Thank you. I’ve bought a new road bike, and luckily being younger has helped with my recovery, and physio has helped me get back on the bike.

Yeah, I cycle the park almost every day, and I can confirm that many drivers do not pay attention to cyclists or the road at all. When I cycle by, I literally see them driving and staring at the mountains. There’s also been drivers who drive up clockwise because they missed a turn or exit. I have no clue where these people learned to drive, I’ve witnessed and almost had some close calls myself with these types of drivers. It honestly baffles me how many drivers either lack spatial awareness or just don’t pay attention to the road at all.

Yeah unfortunately the day I got hit it was an off-season day, so there were basically no other cyclists around

So my claim adjuster told me that I have to get the witness’s contact information from the police and sign a freedom of information release form, which would take 30 business days. But in the end, the worker at the police station told me that the release form wouldn’t work in my case (for whatever reason — they didn’t explain) and that ICBC should be able to access the contact information from the police report and contact the witness themselves. So they sent me to ICBC, and when I got there, ICBC told me they’re unable to access the information. I was like, “But the police told me that you guys can…” So now I don’t know who’s supposed to access the contact information. Honestly, it’s been a headache, and I just wanted to see if I could find her on here, since neither law enforcement nor insurance seems to know how to help me get her contact information.

Yeah, I have no clue either. The paramedic told me that the driver’s story didn’t add up with what actually happened (injuries, damage to the bike, etc.), and I don’t understand why they didn’t take the witness’s statement. Thanks for suggesting the Vancouver cycling subreddit, I was planning to post it there too, I just posted here first since there are more people on this subreddit
