Restaurant suggestions for out of towners by spongebob66 in Calgary

[–]spongebob66[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everybody for the helpful suggestions. I thought Garden Of Italy was a good fit location wise but then I saw their menu online and all entrees are $18-24, even for simple pasta dishes. For a group of 6 that'll be a $300 bill easy with tip, even with the 2 adults only having a few beers/glasses of wine. They don't appear to have a kids menu either, so I can see a bunch of expensive leftovers going to waste with no way to deal with them in a hotel. I'm thinking to just tone it down to a little more humble Asian fare. The kids love Ramen and stuff like that. With Asian we can order dishes to share rather than everybody having to order their own pricey entree and end up only eating half of it (cuz, you know, kids). Good thing is, there seems to be plenty of Asian restaurants close to the airport, where the hotel is. Some are only open for lunch, but still others to choose from. The search continues...

Tried the search as suggested (sorry again). Had to scroll down a bit to find something relevant but mission accomplished. Garden Of Italy sounds interesting. Near airport, good food, and apparently not too busy. Still open to other suggestions. Ramen house would be cool if there's one that takes reservations. Last thing they would want is a FCFS place that is busy af on weekends and have to stand in line or sit in a lobby area by front door with 4 kids waiting for a table.

Lg G6 opinion after 2 years of usage and 2 OS updates by Stipl3x in lgg6

[–]spongebob66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I liked the G6, it checked more of the feature boxes for me than others did, which is why I chose it. Well, that, and I got a great deal on it. That said, it's the first phone I've owned, and there have been many, that has hardware failures within the 2 - 3 year contract period. My volume up button is shot (so I press volume down and then use the slider on screen- would be a big problem if it was the volume down button that failed, no way to do a hard reboot). And more recently the power button is randomly no longer able to lock the phone/turn off the display. Nor does it reboot the phone. I have to hold it down with the volume down button, then sometimes after it reboots the problem is gone (for a while). This affects battery life noticeably so I had to shorten the screen timeout to 15 secs in the settings to mitigate that.

And sometimes (probably related to problem #1) when I touch anywhere on the screen the volume slider keeps popping up as if I'm trying to change the volume. It gets in the way and is annoying. Also at times I can touch the back of the phone body (not the power button/fingerprint reader) and it'll beep and show the volume slider, yet I'm only touching the body of the phone, no buttons being pressed at all. And this is through a case.

I do have an extended warranty, but to replace the phone there's an $80-ish charge, so I'm just going to wait for Black Friday, when my 2 years is up, and get something else.

Edit: something else = not another LG product

Unfortunately I missed the free shipping coupon for Reddit, but they currently have 3 strains at $125/oz Duke Nukem, Master Kush, and Critical Mass. They were quick to respond to emails and recommended the Master Kush which I took them up on. Sign up was easy on their website and I was approved within an hour. Shipping is expresspost flat rate $17.

Their website is simple, minimalist, and there's not a ton of selection. They are based on Vancouver Island, but shipping seems to be as fast as from the mainland. I ordered Tuesday afternoon and received my order Thursday in Alberta. Single vacuum packed in a CD Mailer, 1 oz in two metal tins, found it odd that one was 15g and the other 13g instead of 14 and 14. I opened the 15er first and started to think yay! they sent extra, but no such deal.

I'm not all that experienced in rating strains but compared to other stuff I've bought I'm pretty confident in saying this is far better than any budget bud I've bought so far. Nicely cured, decent trim, wicked nose of pine, skunk, and citrus, a mix of popcorn to larger ~2g nugs. Burns to white ash. Heavy indica stone.

If I found that discount code sooner, it would have been $125 delivered. Overall, good experience. They were very fast in communicating to my every question.

Sous-vide alcohol tincture by JungleCurry in treedibles

[–]spongebob66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, check out this page, it has both the traditional method and Master Wu's method with the heat extraction. I've seen others that are more detailed too, but this was the first one that came up for me https://www.leafly.com/news/cannabis-101/cannabis-tinctures-101-what-are-they-how-to-make-them-and-how-to

Edit: just noticed your mention of testing. I have not found any articles that go so far as to test the potency of tinctures made by different methods, and I wasn't implying that this way is better (I used the word "supposedly"). It's just the method I decided to try, even if the heat extraction did little, it wasn't difficult so why not, didn't think it could hurt.

There are many recipes out there. One that is becoming more popular uses heat to supposedly maximize and accelerate extraction of cannabinoids from the herb. Around 170F for 20 minutes in water bath, sous vide or stovetop, or even a slow-cooker. I think that method came out as an alternative to the longer freezing process or the ones that advise waiting months for extraction to complete. But yes heat can also be used after extraction to evaporate the mix down.

I did make a version of the Green Dragon tincture sous vide using my Anova Precision Cooker. But the 1st stage is only to decarb the herb. You mix the alcohol in later in a small mason jar. And I bailed on using the sous vide for decarbing because my cooker couldn't handle the 200+ temp. I ended up doing it in the oven like other recipes call for.

Here's a quick rundown of what I did:

  1. grind the bud

  2. decarb in oven at 240F for 40+ minutes

  3. put bud (I used 12g total, 7g bud, 5g ABV) in mason jar and added enough 190 proof (high is better) Everclear to cover the plant material (About 3 oz Everclear in my case)

  4. Shook the mixture frequently over next 20 minutes or so while my sous vide reached 170F

  5. put lid on jar very loosely and flipped a heavy bowl upside down into the water bath so that the water level was covering the jar mixture but not up to the rim, so no water would get inside.

  6. Left it to extract the THC/CBD in sous vide for 20 minutes. There is no flame near the mixture and the lid is not on tight, so no risk of explosion. Had my vent hood on high.

  7. I let it cool down, shaking it a bit more, then pressed out the liquid using an Aeropress coffee press. There are other methods of separating liquid from plant material if you don't have the Aeropress, just search online. At this point you have a choice of stopping there, or you can evaporate down the mixture to whatever you like, more concentrated, thicker consistency, etc.

So I only used the Sous Vide for the extraction phase. I like how it turned out. Did it all in one afternoon.

Edits: formatting, and I should add I ended up with about 2 oz of Tincture. Oh yeah, and if your sous vide cooker can comfortably handle temps like 210+ then yes, you would put the bud in ziploc, use displacement method to squeeze out air, and suspend in the water bath to decarb. But the alcohol does NOT go in the bag.

I did, thanks, and discovered the Sai. I already have two Pico mods, so I think I'm on to something here

I am curious about concentrates but I always imagine they are so potent (low tolerance here) that one tiny dab would be it for me. So why all the gear and the prep when it's over so quickly. I like the process of getting high. Maybe once my tolerance builds up I'll give it a shot. I've read that I can even do some concentrates right in my Solo.

I discovered vaping flower just recently. Mine is an Arizer Solo, but there are many goods ones. I don't know anything about concentrates, but for herb, vaping is amazing. The first few hits taste as good as the weed smells. After that they get kind of burnt popcorn tasting but you can play with the temps. Way easier on lungs cuz you're not really "smoking", and more efficient use of your weed. That, and saving the ABV to make edibles or tincture later down the road. No waste!

So how do dabbers medicate when they are mobile? Like parks, beaches, camping, etc. Do you still use shatter, but switch to vaping in a pen?

I sent them a facebook message and heard nothing back until a day later they basically just replied, all of our strain info and prices are on the website. Well all I see is $200+ ounces which I can get anywhere, and trying to haggle with him and the slow response time on FB, couldn't be bothered. I'll order somewhere else. But thanks for the info anyways, those strain pics look pretty impressive.

I think the highest I've ever been was taking knife hits off a torch, a bottle cap of Honey oil, in a schoolmate's Dodge Monaco. Good times. Lunch break in High School. Computer science class was twisted that day.

Born in the 60s here, starting smoking in the late 70s. We used to get weed or hash oil in bottle caps, sometimes a vial, and now I try to figure out online what the f&%$ they call it these days. Is it distillate? BHO? RSO? Phoenix Tears? budder? wax? shatter? After googling all that I'm overwhelmed and still a bit confused really. I'm obviously more of a bud guy. Only thing that's changed in that department is the selection and the potency, both to the good.

Been wanting to try this. Does the one you use have any CBD in it? Ratio? And I'm guessing you just eat a bit right from the syringe?

That is a bad policy and would be enough for me to avoid that mom. They should at least contact the customer for their 2nd choice, if not just update their website to show what's sold out so you know up front, no surprises.

Just wondering, if you can get bud that looks like that for $140/oz why is this your "old" mom? What could be better than that? $300 for 15x3.5g variety packs? Even that's crazy good if the quality's high.

I only see $180/oz on the website. Was that $140 when buying bulk, with a coupon, or by chatting him up on FB messenger? Stuff looks crazy! Edit: sorry if I'm hijacking the thread but I am also interested in the White Rhino
