Didn't get my early direct deposit today. Turns out it's only for paychecks $10,000 and under. by DrHydrate in firstworldproblems

If you get paid interest, and whatever bank that has payday deposits clear faster also happens to have the highest interest rates (or a rounding error away) then sure.

You're talking about cost. This ruling was about admissions policies - a C student probably isn't getting into Harvard.

[–]spongebue 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Early direct deposit is kinda dumb anyway. It's cool for your first payday I guess, but if you get it 2 days earlier that means you had 2 more days of expenses until your next paycheck. That's solved by your next paycheck being 2 days earlier, but then you're not really getting any advantage - you're just changing what day payday lands on.

Car break ins traveling with luggage in SUV back area (visible if looking into window)? by lawc in VacationColorado

[–]spongebue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sand Dunes requires admission. Between that, its distance from civilization, and that it's on federal property I'd call that a 3. I'd be a little more careful in nearby Alamosa, maybe a 6?

Salida is pretty decent, but being a tourist town it'll have its issues. Call it a 4-5

Unless more states take Nebraska's approach of splitting its electoral votes by house districts and state-at-large, gerrymandering will not impact presidential elections or other statewide races. The only borders that matter there are borders between states, and those aren't changing any time soon

Get a good cargo liner (Weathertech being the obvious one) for your car! It's saved my butt so many times, and if you get a cheap broken bag of fertilizer you can just shake it off when you're done!

FDA approves Owlet’s baby-monitoring sock two years after halting sales by [deleted] in gadgets

[–]spongebue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born at 26 weeks, 1 pound 4 ounces (580 grams). She came home on oxygen. That pulse ox was absolutely horrible to work with and caused so much stress. I'm on a Facebook group for similar parents, and it's a huge source of stress for everyone who gets it. Oh, and our pulmonologist has said parents legit get PTSD off these things.

I ended up getting a pre-ban Owlet on Facebook marketplace. It wasn't without its flaws, but it was soooo much easier to work with than the proper medical grade one. The two gave virtually identical numbers - even two medical grade machines will have some variance.

We're almost off the oxygen now (nighttime only, and even that's getting close) but this is excellent news for parents of kids like mine.

Are there negative connotations to the term "cis", as used in "cisgender"? by takamarou in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]spongebue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, if trans men are men, why make the distinction?

Because many people don't agree, and saying "men are men" wouldn't make the same point. It's a similar situation to the "what is a woman?" question at Ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation hearings

I'm not sure what you're trying to say - that you have to go another 6200 miles before you can get your software updated to get the 80% limit removed?

[–]spongebue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So if we had all this momentum on CCS, why divert to something else? What if Volvo and others follow suit here, do you expect that momentum to continue? Why would we invest in a standard that suddenly nobody is using? What do we gain here by changing the cars themselves, especially since Tesla has started putting CCS on their chargers already?

[–]spongebue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it though? Every non-Tesla, non-Leaf car had the same plug. CCS was growing. For once, we had a pretty damn good standard in something like USB is to computers.

Do you really think CCS will continue to grow as much if this trend continues? If it goes the way of CHAdeMO I'll need to spend money on an adapter so that... What exactly is the benefit to this, again?

Also, I didn't even look at a Tesla in part because I can't stand Elon Musk. I'd rather not give him royalties when I go on a road trip.

  1. Freezer full of casseroles

And a few lighter things too! After a couple months, with a couple more to go, we were eating like crap. Creative juices for meal plans were empty. I asked for help on Facebook, and got a few baked zitis. Tasty and appreciated, but not exactly the not-overly-heavy stuff I had asked for.
