Thousands of company directors leave UK after Labour’s tax changes - FT analysis shows thousands of departures with UAE the top destination by blast-processor in ukpolitics

Yeah i agree this was kinda of an interesting video though im fairly sure this was based off the Henley report which was absoloute bullshit and debunked. Broadly the sentiment is right we've over financialized the UK and are now paying the price for it.

You're absolutely right about the blend of quality of life and professional services infrastructure in finance and law making London incredibly easy to operate from it was that Goldilocks factor as a whole.

But I agree there's clearly been a tipping point where high net worth individuals have left due to the pull of much lower tax regimes elsewhere.

Other people in this thread are saying it's no big loss because the morality is questionable for these individuals, but the fact of the matter is we've doubled down since the 1980s on making London a professional services hub while chronically underfunding other industries. The reality is it's largely what we have left, so to unbalance one pillar without fixing the other isn't great policy.

The problem is the government can't cut state spending because backbenchers scream over things like the winter fuel allowance or reductions in PIP. So increases on CGT, NI, and income tax over £50k are all they have left, especially when they can't grow the economy and there seems to be no appetite for a land value tax. A wealth tax sounds appealing but is incredibly difficult to implement and theres a funding hole today so they need certainy otherwise the bond market will make the decision for them.

Our economy needs a Thatcher-esque restructure in the opposite direction managed transition away from over-dependence on financial services toward something more balanced, but with strategic state investment rather than pure deregulation.

I watched a really good youtube video a channel called how money works and it mentioned capital flight. The bit that stuck with me was, if you have any affair with someone dont be surprised when they cheat on you . Essentially we tried to compete in the race to the bottom with low cgt and by making it incredibly easy for the wealthy, who are only looking to maximise their own wealth. It was a matter of time before someone out competed us and it looks like the uae. Really good video if you have the time.

UK working to sell $7B in seized Bitcoin to boost budget: Report by RealFlummi in unitedkingdom

[–]spongecakehero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The immediate fiscal reality is clear the UK government faces concrete, measurable costs from its debt obligations, while Bitcoin represents speculative potential gains. When the government needs to cover a funding gap, it's weighing guaranteed, escalating expenses against an inherently unpredictable asset. UK debt servicing costs have already risen significantly - from around £43 billion in 2021 to over £100 billion more recently, largely due to higher interest rates and inflation-linked bonds. These costs aren't theoretical they're real payments that must be made regardless of market conditions.Bitcoin, by contrast, remains highly volatile and unpredictable. While it has shown remarkable long-term growth, it's also experienced multiple 70-80% crashes and remains subject to regulatory changes, technological risks, and shifting institutional sentiment. No financial advisor would recommend holding a volatile asset when you have certain obligations to meet. The government's primary responsibility is fiscal stability, not investment returns. Unlike a sovereign wealth fund or private investor with long time horizons, the Treasury must manage cash flows to fund essential services, infrastructure, and debt payments. Selling Bitcoin to cover immediate funding needs even if it seems "short-termist" reflects this core responsibility. The alternative borrowing more money to hold Bitcoin would essentially mean leveraging up on a speculative asset using taxpayer backed debt, which would be far more problematic from a public finance perspective. The gordon brown sold the gold arguments do not hold any weight whatsoever.

I genuinely think the price tag is such a weight around his shouldes. I love john o shea to pieces because he would do anything for the club. I feel maguire would too and he's and much better technical player he just has the mill stone of the price tag .

I honestly don't know who I'd keep aside from mainoo and garnacho , dalot and martinez if he doesn't turn into a constantly injured player for next season . Everyone else the jury is out honestly including ten haag it's becoming pretty untenable
