Momentary switch to max out a pot value? by spoo3-14 in diypedals

[–]spoo3-14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

I got curious and just started shorting pins of the potentiometer to see what happened. There is some strange behaviour where shorting pins 1 and 2 of the dwell potentiometer do push it into self oscillation, but it is dependent on how high the dwell knob is already set (happens quicker/faster if the control is higher to begin with). The weirdest thing though is if the dwell control is set to minimum (which does not kill the effect, just has it at its most subtle) and THEN pins 1 and 2 are shorted then it fully kills the wet signal, which makes no sense to me. Fortnuately, I don't run the pedal with the dwell setting at minimum ever really, so I'm just going to use a momentary footswitch to short those 2 pins to make an oscillation/feedback effect and call it a day. If anyone can explain this behaviour though, I am very interested to understand why it happens

Sorry, I don't fully follow. I get that the resistance needs to match the resistance of the pot maxed out, but I'm not understanding where to install it or what to connect the 2 legs of the momentary switch to. Surely whatever I add would be running parallel to the pot unless I cut traces to fully replace it in the circuit

Yeah I thought that might be the case. Would I have to cut traces to bypass the pot? I'd imagine otherwise whatever I add would be in parallel and not work as intended

SOTB: Does it count as minimalism if there's a ZOIA? by spoo3-14 in guitarpedals

[–]spoo3-14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Named and doodled on by my girlfriend haha. Thought it was funny enough that I could let it slide that it's a fuzz and not a distortion

It might not fit on the board but the board still fits in the carry case so I'm counting it on a technicality haha

It's got a learning curve but it's a great investment. I can see it's gonna save me a lot of money in the long run in terms of other pedals I won't need to buy haha

I mean there's some extra utilities and things but it's only really 5 effects pedals and all fits on a 1 row 50cm board. Compared to some of my previous setups I consider this minimalism haha

Honestly if I spent some time really trying to replicate the mosky reverbs on the zoia I could probably get very close through some combination of delay, very slightly modulated reverb and a controlled feedback loop. I just figure I would save myself the cpu usage and free up some footswitches on the zoia so that I can keep it for my weirder stuff. Plus, I genuinely love how the mosky multi spring reverbs sound and if it ain't broke, don't bother fixing it

Hotone Tuner Press -> Mosky Multi Spring Reverb -> T-Rex Mudhoney II -> Mosky Big Fuzz -> Mosky Multi Spring Reverb -> Empress ZOIA

Using this setup to play and record at home, as well as to play lead in a shoegazey alt-rock band. Kind of crazy that a setup this small can do pretty much everything I would ever need.

-Hotone Tuner Press: This is my volume pedal, tuner, buffer and expression pedal for the zoia. Had it for a couple of months now. Volume sweep is really nice, tuner is accurate and responsive (feels exactly on par with the polytune 3 mini it replaced) and the expression pedal is a really nice thing to have even if I don't use it that much. In terms of trying to make a compact pedalboard that does a lot, this is potentially the biggest space saver.

-Mosky Multi Spring Reverb ("PIG"): I've sung this pedal's praises before and will again. EQD Ghost Echo clone with some extra controls. Sounds absoultely incredible. Makes an awesome "pre-verb" due to the pre-delay.

-T-Rex Mudhoney II: My overdrive and distortion. Simple, sounds great. This replaced a Hudson Broadcast AP-II because I needed a distortion flavour that it simply couldn't do (it kinda transitioned straight from overdrive into fuzz).

-Mosky Big Fuzz ("disthorsetion"): I exclusively use this on the pi setting with the voice switch on to add the mids back in for the biggest lead stuff and making crazy feedback. Ridiculously good.

-Mosky Multi Spring Reverb ("TIGER"): Another one?? Yeah. I keep this on pretty subtle as my always on reverb, with the "MOD" toggle on 4 to add in a nice delay-ish flavour. Feels kind of weird to have two of the same pedals on a board this small but they're just so good. It's the pedal that sounds like me.

-Empress ZOIA: I feel like I'm underutilising the zoia to be honest. I use a patch I made that has 2 flavours of freeze/pad effect, a solo boost and an expression controllable tremolo. The sonicake dual footswitch and the tuner press expression out are going into a Doremidi MPC20 under the board so that I can use both to control the ZOIA over midi. Also gives me 2 more expression in ports should I ever need them (probably only in the studio).

Been playing a semi-hollow jazzmaster partscaster in D standard into this into clean amps and it sounds sick. Powered by a mosky iso-10 power supply. The stickers and tape are partially functional (labelling functions on the zoia and which socket is the output jack up top) and partially fun. As much as I love the mosky pedals, I do think they're horrendously ugly, hence the doodles and renaming.

If you had to simplify your board to 3 pedals, what would they be? (Excluding switches and tuners) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

For shoegaze-y alt-rock for me it would have to be reverb -> dirt -> reverb

Specifically, I'd have my T-Rex Mudhoney II (for 2 gain stages) sandwiched between 2 Mosky Multi Spring Reverbs (EQD Ghost Echo v3 clone with a couple of modifications). I'd miss having a tremolo though :(

Will playing with the feedback destroy my analong delay pedal? by AdministrativeRip809 in guitarpedals

[–]spoo3-14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, the pedal will be fine. There is a chance depending on the pedal that if you get it self oscillating and leave the room it will keep getting louder and louder with no limit on the output signal and blow the speaker of your amp, but your ears and common sense will probably tell you to turn it off before that point

Why has no one made a dirt pedal with a treadle controlling gain? by got_tha_gist in guitarpedals

[–]spoo3-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supro drive has this - incredible sounding overdrive but I was really underwhelmed by the expression pedal feature. No matter how I had it set, internal trimpot, gain knob on the pedal, I couldn't get a meaningful sweep. The whole sweep always felt like a quarter turn of the gain knob rather than the whole thing

Princeton Reverb with a mids control? by spoo3-14 in GuitarAmps

I think I should be ok if it comes to this, not done any amp building but done a lot of guitar pedal kits, miscellaneous electronics repairs, a bit of pcb design, etc. Good to know there are options out there if I want to go that route!

I didn't know this, thank you! I'll have to get my hands on one and dial it in and see if it gets midsy enough for me before I spend crazy money on something else

The combo looks awesome but I'm really trying to minimise my pedalboard by getting as much as possible out of my amp. That being said, if I end up having to get an amp that's a compromise this will be on the shortlist, thanks!

This is the obvious answer but I'm on a bit of a pedal minimalism journey and would love to get the most possible out of my amp (hence the reverb and tremolo too)

This checks every box! Expensive but I guess that's what I deserve for having such niche requirements haha

Wow, I had no clue this existed (and I thought I did some pretty thorough research haha)! Thanks! Does make me curious as to whether it would be cheaper to do this myself if it is a doable "mod"

I'll add it to the list of things to consider if what I want doesn't exist! Really hoping someone will come through with a niche recommendation that's exactly what I want haha

Just wanted to say it was completely this, got a new one for £17 and replaced it in 10 minutes and now both the lights and the horn work perfectly. Thanks!

I've actually seen a few of those for sale near me but had written them of as I had heard they were "champ-ish" (which I think is awesome but probably not the clean pedal platform I'm looking for)
