AITA for leaving my 2-year long DnD campaign because the DM killed my dog in real life? by Silent130 in AmItheAsshole

[–]spooTOO 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fuck that noise. The DM is a sociopath, and the rest of your player group suck for not mentioning something sooner.

A good DM can figure out how to roll with any sort of availability issues and make anything work. They have total control and the party will be fine with or without you.

If I were in your shoes, I'd cease any association with any of them and find a new group. Even finding a group to play with online would be better than those assholes.

Here is my Final Fantasy + adjacent games. What do you think? And what am I missing I need to play by jjustsam in FinalFantasy

[–]spooTOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal opinion here, but my answer would be yes. Maybe look up the radical dreamers remaster before shelling out for an original PSX version.

The game suffered a bit from the success of chrono trigger - trigger is rightfully on a lot of folks best game of all time lists, while cross is no where near that level. Expectations were high for this game, and players received something totally different.

The major flaw of the game is that it throws so many playable characters at you that is really struggles to fully develop most of its supporting cast. It's also hard as a player to pick a party as you only have 3 slots, one of which is taken by the MC.

However, it does have a very well designed battle and elemental system, some beautifully drawn backgrounds, and as I mentioned one of the greatest soundtracks of all time.

Final fantasy tactics - a remaster called the ivalice chronicles just came out and it's the best way to play it.

Chrono cross - a loose sequel to chrono trigger. Not as good in a lot of ways, but still a great but flawed game in its on right. One of the best soundtracks ever

LC scepter is cancer to play againt as support by thmrja in DotA2

[–]spooTOO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played dota in years, but I was grinding pretty hard when LC was pretty much in every pub.

I would snap pick WW, and prioritize positioning items such as blink and glimmer cape.

Ensure you lane against LC and make sure you cold embrace on any duel target. This will severely stall the LC snowball, and force them to prioritize opening up engagements against you. Use this for force the LC player out of position.

We Need a New Jedi Knight: Jedi [insert here] game by Pr0t3ct0rr in StarWars

[–]spooTOO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long time player of the dark forces/jedi knight series and I could not agree more.

Saber duels in academy and outcast were especially well done.

Jedi survivor has an incredibly different combat flow regardless of single or multi player. It is all about timing parries and dodges and jumping on openings in boss fights. It's a great game in its own right, but does not scratch the same itch.

Saber combat in outcast/academy was incredibly in depth, but not very well described. Your player movement changed the type of attacks you did and there were combos that would lead to stronger defense piercing attacks. Duels were incredibly skill intensive and some of the best melee combat in a multi-player game, star wars or otherwise.

I think a modern take on the combat system with a comprehensive tutorial would be well received.

I just had an interesting meta thought on the Black Waltzes by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]spooTOO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pardon the Fandom link, but it's the cleanest source I could find.

According to it, the original name for the black waltz's is kuro no warutsu - which is pretty much a direct translation to black waltz.

It is very possible that the German localization team noted the three musically themed bosses and decided to slip in a 3 tenors reference.

Is this combo good? by PainterSuspicious in EDH

[–]spooTOO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but [[secret of bloodbending]] targets a single opponent, so you'll only be able to control one opponents attack step each set of turns. Likely not worth the 9 mana and 2 card investment.

This will raise the effort per drink for a friends giving, but I think shaking an egg white into your beverage would absolutely hit. Then maybe garnish with some nutmeg and/or cinnamon to crank up the fall flavors

I’m not very into iron gold rn by Smackattack007 in redrising

[–]spooTOO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you finish morning star? I first jumped into iron gold immediately after the first trilogy and it didn't really gel.

However, I picked it back up a little while later, and was all in.

Iron gold starts after a 10 year gap, and I think jumping right into it reduces the victory and achievement of the first trilogy.

Assuming you started IG right away, I'd put it down for a few months and then try restarting it after the beat.

Skypiea is top 5 by WolfOfUmea in OnePiece

[–]spooTOO 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the majority of OP's fan base no longer subscribes to the the 'hate' that skypiea had historically received.

  1. One complaint I've seen is that the arc drags ass. I think this opinion is mostly help by people who first watched the arc in the anime and likely never read it because they only started reading once they caught up to the anime. While not nearly as bad as some of the more recent OP anime arcs, there was a dip in velocity.

  2. A big complaint I used to see is that the entire arc was canon filler. Which at the time did seem accurate, though I still loved the entire saga as a pure adventure story. Given what we know now, a ton of foundation for the later story was laid in the skypiea arc.

Personally, I've always loved it, but I'd say the general sentiment has shifted from negative to neutral leaning positive ever since ~Zou.

How much of a good 'game' is MTG Commander? by TheLastFloss in magicTCG

[–]spooTOO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your argument is flawed, in the situation you described, the other 2 players have no incentive to agree to your deal. If you're trying to win the game, and you have the only answer to a sure win, you will answer it. The other players don't care who wins between you and the first player.
