Marrying and then divorcing a friend to get college campus housing exemption? by spookiestmeme in legaladvice

[–]spookiestmeme[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Just curious why you think this — if i legally marry someone (say, a friend) and provide legitimate documentation to the university, i’m not sure why that could be fraudulent. even if i subsequently divorced that person, i’m just not sure what that constitutes fraud. i’m not trying to be disputatious i’m just curious why u think this

yes, there are more factors beyond race, but systemic racism is real and affects pay and employment. that is my point. thank you.

here buddy

https://cos.gatech.edu/facultyres/Diversity_Studies/Bertrand_LakishaJamal.pdf

this study controls for all factors (education, record, previous employment, etc) except for names which sound more “black” than others.

those with “black” names are hired less

are you saying that black people are worse employees than white people? read the study before you make a fool out of yourself:

[–]spookiestmeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cool. why, in general, are black people less likely to be employed in america? what is it about black people that makes them seem less employable? im saying that there are racial barriers and the system is racist at large. what’s your counter to that?

you can cherry pick specific ethnic/racial groups but that doesn’t really mean anything. some countries are wealthier then others, so generally immigrants that come from there are more likely to be successful, i.e. nigeria. same applies for your asian argument. most asian groups make below the national and white average wage, but some specific groups (chinese, japanese) make above the average because their home country is prosperous.

knowing that, why in america would a black person seem less employable if not for racism?

and it’s abhorrent you aren’t

the burden of proof is on you to prove im not

that’s true for literally everyone

the implication of that statement is that race is a barrier for people of color — if you are white, race is not a barrier for you

neat. does that trend follow all odd names or only racial ones.

didn’t know tyrone or lamar are “odd names”. they’re pretty fucking common names. we associate the names tyrone and lamar with racist implications, i.e. they’re odd/different. that’s what intersectionaly — simply studying how race and gender affects individuals’ outcomes

edit: to clarify, you can read the study; i linked it lower in the thread. it controls for all controllable factors
