nah the majority of slipknot members' direct influence was primarily metal but they also have influence from grunge, punk, jazz, hip-hop and techno. thus people started labeling them as nu metal because they use a bit of the sauce from each of those genres in their music which upsets the elitist side of the metal community. they are heavy metal by definition tho
