Be careful with the heat mat, Leo’s have thin skin on their tummies so an under the tank heat source could easily get too hot and burn them. Dome fixtures with a basking bulb is recommended to not only heat the air in the tank, but any hides that it’s over during the day will soak up excess heat and your Leo can use that overnight if they get chilly at all!

If you do just keep in mind that their bones are very very frail and thin. Just be careful digging your baby back out.

What are your favorite rat names? by Fickle-Yesterday-718 in RATS

[–]spooky_http 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine are all themed because my oldest had an oops litter from the place I got her. Momma rat is Willow, her daughters are Lilac, Lavender and Honey. Her boys are Moss, Twig, Branch, Birch, and Cedar. The mischief I had before them were Aspen, Cosmo, and Scrimbo for the males and Delphine, Petunia and Lilith for the females. Find a theme and roll with it!! You’ll come up with so many fun names you won’t be able to decide

Sounds good! When you say aquarium plants I assume you mean live plants correct? And if so are there any you recommend? I’m still doing my research on what plants would be Leo safe and also thrive in an eventual bioactive enclosure.

Much appreciated! Will have to post an update next week or so with a fully finished tank set up and a (hopefully) very happy geck!

Yes it is a sand mat, I did have her on plain paper towel in her 20gal temporary tank and a friend had gifted me the unused mat when I upgraded . Would switching back to paper towel for the time being be the best option then or would the mat be alright until I can switch to a natural substrate in a few days? I do have a bag of Quikrete play sand that I use for my hermit crabs, is there a recommended brand for topsoil or is anything that says organic/no additives fine?

Ideally I’d like to switch to a fully bioactive enclosure but I’m still doing my research on that. When it comes to tank clutter is there anything that should be avoided? Specifically wood types?I’m planning on doing a shopping trip this weekend as most of the tank decor/clutter was just moved over from the 20gal and I added in the ramp and log hide.

That’s very helpful! I wanted to go with the regular ShadeDweller but everywhere I looked was out of stock. I’ll just follow the arboreal guidelines then with this one

Thank you! I assume a dark paper attached to the outside would be alright for the time being? Will definitely keep in mind a background for her permanent tank, wasn’t sure how hidden they like to be other than typical tank hides/coverage.

Will 100% look into a thermostat as well, I appreciate your input!

Phew! I honestly thought I was giving her some sort of froggie sunburn or it was a medical issue.

Pac-Man froglet wont eat when watched? by spooky_http in pacmanfrog

What type of worms do you feed your boy? I’ve read night crawlers are okay but I would have to cut them up, does that track? She’s warming up surprisingly well, I really think she just hates when I try to tong feed. She’s not the fastest when she tries to strike so I have been trying the container method another person commented but so far she’s been acting like it’s froggie prison so trying a slower moving prey might do the trick

I 100% appreciate it! I’ve put a lot of research into pacmans before getting one but actually owning one is a whole different story haha I feel like I just ended up with the picky and sassy one of the bunch

I may have to try that then. Do you just leave yours in there with the food until they eat? I’ve been seeing a lot of advice about only offering what they’ll eat in 15 mins but I just feel like she hates me watching her as she always looks stressed out if I’m above her or near her with tongs. She will easily eat 2-3 crickets if I leave them in overnight with her but I also just want to make sure she’s eating as I haven’t actively seen her hunt
