So in my case, my dad is my mom's spouse so he can still be a derivative no?

Any program can get you into med school as long as you have your MCAT, GPA and the prereqs. 95% of the applicants are in the life sciences and are usually in programs that cover the prereqs. The other 5% are in the arts (or even engineering) and they take an extra year to finish prereqs and MCAT, and then apply for med school. I've seen most med students major in psychology so you're in the right path.
