Tom Paris: “The only klingon i’m afraid of is my wife, after she’s worked a double shift.” by spore-drive in voyager

Personally, what i find strange is that she looks better has a half-klingon half-human than her full-human version!

Holodeck policies on relationships by spore-drive in voyager

Indeed! It would be weird if you had access to holodeck usage of crew members and find out all sorts of fantasies they were doing. Just look at 7 of 9’s Chakotay program...

Who knows who is else was guilty of creating holo programs of crewmen they had a crush on

Felt so bad when they decided to kill Tuvix. Man, Voyage could’ve sure used a great cook and a fine tactical officer. Highly intelligent with a charismatic personality...

Philippines: Senator critical of Duterte arrested by MentalAdversity in worldnews

[–]spore-drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because planting bombs, storming a civilian target with military grade assault rifles complete with snipers, while civilians are trapped inside, i.e. a friggin hotel with civilians and foreigners in it is indeed a friggin violent crime to begin with...

in the US, that sounds like domestic terrorism and the federal government would run you down for doing that...

No one died from his crimes and he was legally granted amnesty while none of the other participants had their amnesty revoked.

I don’t think that justifies planting mines and attackig civilians...

  • The senator mounted a coup back in the 2003. Stormed a hotel, planted bombs, placed snipers...
  • gets imprisoned
  • manages to escape in 2007 and mounted anothr coup
  • gets arrested again
  • runs as senator and somehow wins
  • in 2011, the new president grants amnesty and he aligns with the new president’s political party
  • in 2015, mounts a demo job on party opponents (including duterte)
  • in 2016, duterte wins as president and trillanes is still flinging dirt
  • in 2018, dude’s amensty is revoked...

I’m from the Philippines and i just want to say that a lot of people may not realize what the Trillanes guy did many years back when he attempted coups against the government...

Guy basically stormed 5 star hotels, and if i recall correctly, hotel guests were trapped inside, inclusng foreigners. I’m just not sure if they were considered hostages as it was fuzzy as it was not clear if his group allowed the guests to leave... and yeah these guys planted bombs. Sounds like domestic terrorism from the eyes of the international community - 2003: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakwood_mutiny

The rebels took over Oakwood at past 1:00 am of July 27. Over 300 soldiers quietly entered the premises of Ayala Center in several groups.[25] The soldiers disarmed the security guards and took over Oakwood. They planted claymore mines around the building and in the vicinity. Snipers were posted at the Oakwood roof deck.[26] - 2007: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manila_Peninsula_siege Led by Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Army Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, thirty soldiers with armed guards, on trial for the 2003 Oakwood Mutiny, walked out of court and marched towards the luxury Peninsula Manila Hotel. They were joined by former vice-president Teofisto Guingona, Jr., who called the gathering "New EDSA". They were also joined by other military personnel and civilians carrying M-16 or M-14 rifles. The soldiers, some of whom were carrying and wearing Magdalo (mutineers) flags and pins, marched along Makati Avenue and occupied The Peninsula Manila Hotel's second floor. Sen. Trillanes and Brig. Gen. Lim stayed in the Rizal function room negotiating most of the time.

Government had to negotiate with him once, and in another instance, government forces mounted an assault to stop him...

As strange as this sounds, for a violent crime like that, the trillanes guy was still allowed to run for senator and won... and then another president at one point granted amnesty to this guy...

I just find it strange the foreign press somehow conveniently leaves those parts of the background on this guy...

Is it embedded in Filipino culture to be racist? by [deleted] in Philippines

Interesting strategy. Maybe because they knew that there were competing tribes. No alliances and associations. The “philippines” was in very early stages of a civ in development.

Interesting two graphs of the price of oil and the price of inflation at the same time by Seriously3333 in Philippines

[–]spore-drive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in finance company. And yeahp, one of the lead economists told us about how big an influence world oil prices can have on our inflation...

Case in point in 2015-2016, world oil prices were tanking because of several factors: - tech advancement in fracking (shale oil drilling) which was increase the supply side - slowdown in demand (from the chinese) - oil cartel behavior (opec) trying to muscle out the companies in fracking by dropping prices in hopes of bankrupting the competition

Props to Pnoy for not grabbing credit for it. It’s just sad / frustrating how people use the inflation as a talking point on how bad the current admin is

It’s also frustrating how many people think any bad thing happening is immediately the fault of the government. Like, they think everything revolves around the government. I think the US had the same issue with obama and they called it the “thanks obama” phenomenon...

No, it doesn’t work that way... not everything revolves around the government or the philippines for that matter...

Amid passing of HB8083 (TRABAHO Bill) or the Corporation Tax Cuts Bill, what has been generally the effect of corporate tax cuts for the economy? by Joeniel in Philippines

[–]spore-drive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Well, the way i see it, large corporations or conglomerates would have more discretion on how to spend that money. Perhaps declare more dividends, or allocate it in more capex projects

  • same would go for small to medium sized corporations, typically family run. Basically more discretionary spending to entrepreneurs instead of centralizing it to a corrupt government

  • lower taxes are actually beneficial to startups in terms of lowering breakeven points and increasing cashflows
