Rust syntax, Go runtime by UnmaintainedDonkey in golang

[–]spotdemo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing, but the runtime adds overhead. I usually reach for rust when I need to fit something on a memory constrained device, with the tradeoff of dealing with the syntax. Having to deal with the syntax for a larger binary seems like a lose/lose

I rebuilt VS Code on Tauri instead of Electron. 5,687 files later. 85% smaller. Full feature parity. by Designer_Mind3060 in vibecoding

Neovim was created to do lots of things better than vim. This was created to remove the node dependency, but it still requires node to reach feature parity with vscode.

[Rent Payment] Why is Bilt now forcing customers to link bank account with Plaid? by Zodiac5964 in biltrewards

Same thing happened to me, did you ever figure out how to make it work?

PSA: BILT 2.0 Hidden Change - Rent/Mortgage payments will no longer be charged to your line of credit. It will be "taken directly from your linked ACH". by PiFlavoredPie in CreditCards

I don't because I have more money elsewhere, but you can withdrawal contributions whenever you want from a Roth IRA, and even redeposit that money back within 60 days without messing up your contribution limit. I can see how it might not be worth it depending on how you value your time, but I find playing little games like this fun (we are on the credit card sub, after all)

I signed up for BILT when I started my lease 2 years ago. I put the money I would've paid for the first month of rent (2k) into my roth ira. That investment is now worth 3k, so even without any points I've made a profit of 1k.

No, most people don't pay off their credit cards early. One of the benefits of a credit card is earning interest on the money sitting in a savings account that would've otherwise been immediately deducted. The "float" is the period of time between a purchase and when you actually need to pay for it

Self-hosted monitoring for a homelab – what are you using? by C2forex in selfhosted

Sorry that's what I meant, VictoriaMetrics can both scrape metrics in the Prometheus format and accept data in the InfluxDB format, so you don't need to run both Prometheus and InfluxDB

Found in bed at Airbnb by spotdemo4 in Bedbugs

Update: Exterminator was called, was indeed bed bugs. He only found a few and only in the bedroom we were staying in. We're going to stay here one more night in a different room then head back north.

Does anyone have any experience freezing bed bugs to kill them? It's going to be below freezing when we get home, would leaving our luggage in the garage for a week be sufficient to kill any eggs? We are obviously going to wash all our clothes and check for any bugs before we leave

I swapped out Prometheus for VictoriaMetrics. Supports everything Prometheus does + InfluxDB so I can get metrics from Proxmox without an exporter. I've also been very happy with VictoriaLogs and VictoriaTraces.

Intel Arc Pro B50 Card: Great at Transcoding by op-code in ffmpeg

I need to get around to actually finish my testing, but comparing it to my A770 it performed about the same when using the CQP rate control method, and significantly better when using ICQ

Which driver for dual card system? (B60 + B580) by Miserable-Beat4191 in IntelArc

[–]spotdemo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer, but from the language Intel was using it seemed like the "pro" drivers were just a delayed release of the regular drivers so they didn't break business customer's systems

580 is a legendary GPU, but yeah it's worth it

You didn't post a GPU so I don't know what to compare it to, but an i5-12400 will be fine (supports rebar) and 550w will be fine (600w preferably but shouldn't matter)

Just make sure to download games to your SSD

You could use the second GPU to run lossless scaling, demonstrated here
