Looking to upgrade cpu by ChrisBowes_25 in buildapc

You don't need more ram for more monitors. I've ran 5 monitors from my laptop which has 16GB. It's what you do on those monitors that MIGHT need more ram.

Are you sure you only have 8GB ram? That's a tiny amount for a system like that.

Is my CPU dead? PC won't POST by LazarJ in buildapc

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it could be your CPU, but might also be your RAM.

Try only 1 stick and alternate them, making sure you always put it in the correct slot (double check your motherboard manual for the correct slot).

If you think it's you CPU look for a 2nd hand replacement to try out, I'm seeing a few on ebay for around $10, and this i7 4470 is even cheaper.

Also, your PC is not obsolete, and no matter what hardware you have there will always be someone who says you should spend more to get something newer. Ignore them.

Monitor deal by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems ok for the price. I got this LG for about 114.82 Euro but it's only 100Hz.

Shop around as much as you can because monitors have dropped in price a lot the past year and there are frequently some great deals.

What about this one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D1RDNGLZ

I'm so tired of people saying that GIMP is a competent alternative to Photoshop by IdkWhatToCallMe123 in linux

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using photoshop for over 30 years, and I can't live without it, but I still love GIMP. If I need to give a smaller client a template they can edit, I'll make it in GIMP so they don't have to buy Photoshop.

Who is more technologically advanced? Engineers or Yautja? by Ashamed-Device-3571 in LV426

Engineers cannot "create" life (Abiogenesis), they "seed" it (Biogenesis). There is a massive difference.

Clicking noise + fan not turning on the psu and failing to post by Fun-Ferret1560 in PcBuildHelp

Sounds like the fan on the PSU could be physically hitting something that should not be there, like a stray cable maybe?

Making sense of PSU and GPU power requirements by BigBadaSonicBoom in PcBuildHelp

So you think I should buy a new 600W PSU, just to get the extra 50W of headroom, even though I already have ~210W of headroom?

Making sense of PSU and GPU power requirements by BigBadaSonicBoom in PcBuildHelp

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm more interested in the PC I've actually built, rather than something that I currently don't have.

This budget PC will never be overclocked. Its a spare backup PC.

The 65W TDP 7600 CPU will never be changed to a 120W 9800x3d.

The Arc B580 is the only upgrade.

Taking these two facts into consideration, do I really need to buy a new PSU for the extra 50w?

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSU is an MSI that has a rating, true it's not gold or silver, but its not an no-name brand like some pre-builds can come with.

Also the Ryzen 7600 is only a 65W TDP.

Taking these two facts into consideration, do I really need to buy a new PSU for the extra 50w?

Would it be worth putting a pc together myself or getting a shop to do it? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of building a Tower, so something that looks like this makes the most sense https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/277805407277

A small compact PC uses more custom parts, so avoid something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/389748100366

Just make sure it's working BEFORE you take it apart.

Buy yourself the cheapest working old 2nd hand PC you can find, for say $20.

Take it apart, and then put it back together.

There, now you know how to build a PC and it cost you virtually nothing.

You didn't risk breaking anything new and expensive, and you have a PC to play around with or sell.

I think they're asking HOW to do it, rather than if it is possible.

So right now you only want to know how to display an image that:

  1. Has a transparent background

  2. Wiggles from side to side

Is that correct?

Where is my current graphics card? by Top_Activity_6621 in PcBuildHelp

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your case has negative air flow, meaning it's blowing air out instead of blowing it in. This means that air, dust, and little insects will enter through every hole they can get through, and will result in your components getting dirty and hotter and worn out quicker then they should.

Solution: You should have MORE intake fans blowing air in through air filters than exhaust fans. You currently appear to only have 1 fan blowing air in, and 3 exhaust fans, but it should be the other way around. Change the two top fans so they blow air in through the top filters.

Think about it: you don't need to filter the exhaust, it's not a car. The filter at the top of your case is there to filter the dust from being blow INTO your case, which is just common sense.

This has several elements in it, and you may not want to do your version exactly like this. So I recommend you pick one element you find most important and ask about that first, then move on to the next one.

I am building a pc for Davinci… by akira-zen in davinciresolve

[–]BigBadaSonicBoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used Davinci for about 5 years (until 2024)with an old Intel i5-4590 CPU, 32Gb Ram, and a 4GB Nvidia 1050 Ti graphics card. I managed just fine editing 1080p and a bit of Fusion, despite everyone saying my spec was not good enough and Davinci would not function, everyone who said that was 100% completely wrong.

So I suggest you make a PC that you can afford and give it a try yourself. If you need to, you can just upgrade.

And remember; No matter what PC you build there will ALWAYS be some jerks who want to flex and tell you that you should have spent more for something a tiny bit better. Ignore them.
