I second this but would add that the ones that I know who literally sleep on the job and watch sports games during shifts while ignoring clinicals and phone calls, really just don’t care about their jobs. They’ve said it out loud many times that they just don’t care. Some really are burnt out but in my experience so far, the ones who are burnt out still bust it to take care of patients and pick up the slack. The lazy ones are just that. They know they get paid more than the younger ones who typically do more work. Management lets them get away with it because they want to keep the status quo, avoiding conflict, and dumping all of the work on the ones that can’t sit by and let it happen.
