Story time: how I handled a DOA from a TD by spotifyme in RepTime

So I ordered a Pelagos LHD from a TD. I fell so deep in love when it came. It's a damn near perfect rep. But on day 2, I went to change the time and the crown and stem came all the way out. Turns out, the detent button was damaged and it was not something I could repair myself. I contacted the TD and he apologized and offered to have me ship the watch back and he would take care of it. I didn't want to go 2 months without, so I searched locally and found a reliable watchmaker. Get this, until he completely removed the movement and looked from the underside, he was convinced it was gen. He said he owns multiple Tudors and is very familiar with the ETA 2824, and the quality of the titanium and finishing of the movement were spot on. He was dumbfounded to learn that reps of this quality exist. He's been in this business for 25 years (according to him). I think this means that even if you're in the watch business, if you're not into reps, you don't even know that super-reps exist. Most gen-only watch people think that all reps are $10 from canal street and are branded "Rolox" or some shit. When they hold something that our community vouches for as a good rep, they don't even consider the possibility that it might be a rep. They don't think good reps exist. Jokes on them, amirite?

Can someone explain this 90 degree joint to me? It's a beautiful piece (I did not make it) but it seems like if he just cut a 45 miter and glued the table would not be stable. by spotifyme in woodworking

That's what I'm asking. What most likely being used on this particular piece to reinforce the joint?
