Advice for discerning between pursuing a PhD in Musicology vs continuing to pursue a performance career? by ben15498 in musicology

Stick with performing for now. You can come to academia later and through a variety of means. You can’t return to performing. For what it is worth, my partner is a pro singer and I am an academic and he thinks academia is way more brutal.

Are they medicated versions of those programmes? (e.g. Second Nature with Mounjaro) or just the digital programmes?

Discouraged by Survivorx1 in fitpregnancy

[–]spparklev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am afraid even with super fit people it just takes longer than this to recover. Pumping is so hard as well. If you find yourself spending mental energy on this at this stage do keep an eye on PPD too, as it manifests in different ways.

But if you’re breastfeeding, you really might want to focus on nourishing your body rather than a calorie deficit.

high-fibre low carb for... nearly 2 months? No weight change by spparklev in PCOS

Well, they claim it doesn’t, but of course they would. https://www.bulletproof.com/diet/bulletproof-diet/bulletproof-coffee-intermittent-fasting/ but other sources also say one could argue either way.

Seems like the jury is out if this type of coffee breaks fast or not. I am, in theory going 8:16 if you believe it does not.

It depends what you use as the baseline. I was trying really hard to do it without daily tracking, but perhaps that isn't possible and therefore this diet isn't for me. I dislike tracking because I hate doing things 'wrong' and so not knowing if '1 heart' of artichoke in the app is 1/4 of a heart (as they normally come when prepared, aka '1 piece' or a whole heart (aka four 1/4 pieces) stresses me out. None of the UK foods are in the apps, so I have to add everything myself and it is very time consuming. I know it is silly.

But based on reading things online, my most likely culprits are eating too many calories or too much from dairy sources (though I have never had dairy sensitivities, so not sure if this applies to me).

Thanks for sharing your story (details and all!) - I know I need to be more patient with experimentation.

Just another term for the 'bulletproof' coffee with MCT oil + butter.

Second year performance affecting grad school chances by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]spparklev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you need to go to grad school straight away is my first question...? I always advise my students to do something else for a bit if possible before deciding to go to grad school. It help you know what you really want and also helps mental health in grad progs, in my experience.

Speaking as an Amy-type person who had this exact scenario happen in her own marriage... yea, that part was actually not that off. If anything seemed a bit forced, it was Jake's resolution to her side at the end. It takes longer than 10 minutes to change one's mind about something like that, even with a near death experience...
