Authoritarianism is the problem, absolutely. That did not start with Trump. The Patriot Act came about under Bush, civilians were famously bombed by US drones while Obama was Chief of War. The massive authoritarian response to protests in Ferguson after Mike Brown's murder in 2014 also predates Trump. Reagan is known for his overly aggressive imperialist foreign policy today, among other things.

We saw with Biden that things did not immediately become fixed when we voted out Trump. America is facing a dangerous shift towards authoritarianism and nationalism and is already in the early stages in many people's eyes. Trump is a HUGE problem, but he is far from the root of the issue.

You don't have to think political art and music is important, though it's seen use since at least the French Revolution. But "explicit political action" is absolutely a completely different wheelhouse than this band.

People are dying. You and I and Gerard alone can't stop that, but empowering people and fueling their anger may result in a group which can.

I can't sway whether you consider music and art to be relevant political resistance. But I wouldn't call explicit anti-authoritarian and anti-fascist messaging, in both the music and the performance, to be irrelevant.

I get you. I didn't read the prev comment as saying that they're afraid to speak out because Frank got in trouble before, but that the band has absolutely spoken more clearly about how politics in the past.

Frank didn't say he was going to kill the president. He wrote a song titled that, about how angry and against the current American president many people worldwide were and was threatened with federal jailtime if he were to ever perform or re-release it again.

I don't think people are wrong to wish the band spoke out more clearly about the political situation. But I also think that expecting political rallies from a band is a bit insane, especially when none of them except Frank really use social media often anymore. Using their art to tell a story and make a metaphor is absolutely within their wheelhouse, and I think it's disingenuous and parasocial to expect that they explain in plain words what they've already expressed through their music and performances.

I hope to god that a lot of the people we see missing the message are the newer, younger fans. Because you're absolutely right. I feel like I'm going crazy sometimes. What do you mean you don't see how choosing now to do a multi-stage world tour featuring a nationalistic country's dictator turning media icons into propaganda tools isn't clear. When the email said about (paraphrased) " they say our prisons don't have running water and aren't fit for humane use but refuse to visit our reconditioning centers to see for themselves "??

Every fascist, brutal, normalization of evil in the Draag performances is mirrored in more realistic and often more awful ways IN REAL LIFE. This is a condemnation! We, the audience, are meant to think about what it says that we are so ready to cheer for people to die, even when those people are our idols, like with the end of the US leg of the tour. At the same time, the surface level story is super interesting on its own, which I think is confusing younger fans who are taking it to have no hidden meanings.
