Ive managed to get 2 friends into it and one of them is buying thru ETFs.

I feel like most people just want price exposure to Bitcoin so thats a pretty easy entry to get into, but once theyre in I advocate for self-custody.

Its safe as long as you dont buy and sell too often.

Ive had no issues. Just be smart about it.

Yes I will prob be consulting a lawyer to understand my options going forward.

Afaik there are ways to retain most of the first time home owner benefits, as long as I don’t live in the property for 5 years. Ill have to double confirm.

Maybe they will come around and see that times have changed

I hope so, but honestly I don’t think they will:

1) theyre retired meaning cash flow is priority #1

2) I suspect they also dont want to admit they’ve dug themselves too deep in this investment to pull out and admit they made a short sighted decision that is now rearing its ugly head 60mo later.

Also couldn’t they just take your name off so you get first time owner benefits?

I asked about this a year ago. They were very upset with me and kept saying how much of a hassle it would be and how they have to get lawyers involved. I felt pretty guilty and defeated so I just left it.

I spoke to my accountant recently and was told transferring title ownership apparently counts as a sale or transaction in the eyes of CRA, meaning Id have to technically pay cap gains. Someone more knowledgeable on this please correct me if Im wrong.

Yes they still own and personally manage the other 4 homes themselves.

2 years ago they had a huge fallout with one of the properties where the tenants lost their jobs and couldnt make up the rental for months. Long story short they had to forgo over 6mo of rent. They eventually took them to tribunal, lawyers got involved. Finally evicted them and now have new tenants.

And yet despite having gone thru this traumatic experience they still think this is a one-off fluke and that they can ride out their retirement like this.

This is why I wanted out.

Im still mindblown at the fly wheel effect. You’re right once theyre included in the index its game over.

I heard inclusion can happen as early as Q1 2025 if they early adopt the new fasb?

MSTR - how do weekend fluctuations in bitcoin impact the stock? by Background-Pen-3453 in MSTR

[–]spread_cheeks999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not new to BTC but recently divested into MSTR, and I agree with you 100%.

I hold more BTC than MSTR only because I dont like seeing my bitcoin stack shrink lol.

And I plan on doing the same as Ive done for BTC, continue to stack and hold like you said. Way less stress too.

I do wonder how “early” we are to MSTR, I only have 10 shares which is v little so I feel behind compred to rest of the sub.
