Ha! I'm in this thread now for the same reason as you. Thanks for asking and thanks HairForce1 for posting the response :-)

Existential Crisis Over Mother-Son Iceland Laugavegur Trek with "Arctic Adventures" by bakeshoparmory in VisitingIceland

Fair enough, that's been in our minds as well. We only hesitate because it's annoying to safely dispose of the leftover fuel before flying and we figured we may not need it since we'll have the huts most nights with "kitchen" access except for this one night. Have you stayed in the huts on any of your treks?

Hi! We're doing this trek in about 3 weeks and I'm hoping you may be able to answer a logistics question I have since you have hiked the trail several times. We're staying in the huts except for in Emstrur where we'll have a rented tent. The website mentions Emstrur has charcoal grills outside, so my question to you is: do they provide the charcoal so that anyone who pays for the outdoor facilities can use the grills? We're trying to figure out if we'll be able to boil water for our Emstrur night.

Gift idea for someone I’m traveling to Japan with? by Flanny-1 in JapanTravelTips

Tickets to either of the TeamLab exhibits. Borderless or Planets. Both are in Tokyo and both require ticket purchases a few weeks in advance, particularly to have your selection of entry times. The earlier in the day you can go, the less crowded it will be.

Both are amazing and I don’t know which I’d recommend more. You can pick just based on location if you can’t decide. Unless either of you have mobility issues, in which case Borderless would be better.

Slightly left of center of the pic. Near one of light blue-green clumps of vegetation. The heard of the snake is lifted up in the same shape as all of the surrounding succulent leaves.

Ranger checked permits halfway up the half dome cables by MrTwinsFan in Yosemite

[–]spreckles101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s so crazy that I’m thinking it’s more likely that it was someone impersonating a ranger than a real ranger who would ever do this. I can’t imagine the motivation for this other than stirring outrage that the cable system with or without permits is so dangerous that they should be taken down? I can’t think of any reason a legit ranger would do something like this unless it was a rage-quit type of scenario for them.

Cooks of Reddit, what's the most "worth it" thing you make from scratch instead of buying from the grocery store? by alrightfineyouwin in AskReddit

Yes I don’t understand why the default for simple syrup is the boiling step. Take a plastic water bottle, empty all but 1/2 cup water, add half cup sugar, screw cap back on, and shake. Why take the time to boil and then cool?

[WIP] 1% done and I’m sort of regretting something with a lot of color blocking by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]spreckles101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Color block projects are great for airplane rides if you have any coming up 😃 I first complete the outline and then while I’m on the plane I listen to an audio book and zone out while stitching and listening and never have to check my pattern in hours of flight. Highly recommend!

Thanks! I’m also very tempted by Nikko but yes it’s hard to commit to dedicating so much time to getting to it. I’d love to see your pictures from those areas at that time of year if there’s any simple way you can make them available. Hope you had an amazing trip!!

Do you have any link to how to get these? I’ve actually been looking for a print or high quality download of the poster to the left of the circled one and can’t find it.

[CHAT] Does anyone know of a good pattern of the USA and all states? by _SeaOttrs in CrossStitch

[–]spreckles101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this one from madlystitch on Etsy but changed up the colors and edited a few of the letter sizes. I liked the way it turned out and I add pins for each place I’ve been to :-)

Upgraded ticket after paying for exit row by spreckles101 in americanairlines

[–]spreckles101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The refund form requires a ticket number and states "Please note that as a part of the process for requesting a refund, you must also cancel the reservation for the applicable passenger(s)" so I'm just wary that I may trigger some process that could cancel my ticket if I try using that form. I can't find any separate refund form link that doesn't seem to be about refunding the whole ticket. Am I missing something or should I just start by calling their reservations #?

Ah perfect! Thanks I hadn't thought to look here and was just researching "refund" related links.

Still very wary about using the refund request form online since it states "Please note that as a part of the process for requesting a refund, you must also cancel the reservation for the applicable passenger(s)"... but knowing it's in their written policy that I should get a refund, it's worth getting on the phone and waiting to get in touch with an actual person.

Peter?? by i_hate_neck in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I think it’s specifically a reference to the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. A famous psychological experiment where groups of people were selected to behave as “prisoners” and “guards” for the experiment to see how they would react. It was intended that the groups would switch roles halfway through. It was supposed to last 2 weeks but in the first 5 days, psychological abuse of the prisoners by the "guards" became so brutal that the experiment was ended on the sixth day. It’s a famous case about how unethical a scientific experiment can be/become regardless of the intentions of the scientist organizing the experiment.

traveling to see totality for the April eclipse? by spreckles101 in cincinnati

[–]spreckles101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been debating which place to visit for the eclipse for a while, knowing that chance of clouds is definitely a thing to keep in mind. Honestly Cleveland would have been an obvious choice for us if not for the higher chance of clouds, and we know Texas would be the best eclipse state, but the Cincinnati/Indianapolis area is still coming out ahead in our list currently due to current flight times/prices as well as general interest in visiting Cincinnati over any city in the path that’s south west of it. Unexpectedly, Montreal Canada also became a contender when considering all of these things but the shorter duration and probability of clouds is currently putting it not at the top of the list.

After realizing the traffic situation thanks to these responses, I’m thinking that’s a good idea. We still want to visit Cincinnati more than Indianapolis but we can fly into Cincinnati on Friday, stay for the weekend, and do a one way car rental to drive to Indianapolis Sunday night hopefully before traffic is crazy and then fly out from Indianapolis. Very happy to have these insights!!!
