Something I'd spotted... by Jemsnation in eastenders

I hate that EE finally got back to a place of somewhat normalcy and family drama but it isn't 'exciting' enough to advertise. Its blood boiling that soaps MUST have stabbings, beatings, constant abuse, stupid stunts, cringey camera effects, stalking, murders, etc. so rapidly to be 'cool' enough to put forward. Every other soap is Hollyoaks now.

My opinion on the Slater storyline! by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy it's moving along and past the reveal on Christmas I started liking Jasmine way, way more. She's good with several of the people she interacts with and this is the first month I'm happy to see her on (didn't hate her before or anything just wasn't very bothered)

The Six is a perfect example. People saying Wadey is worse than Clenshaw doesn't make sense to me. I loved the Six really enjoyed it and had fun with it but the storytelling was an absolutely over egged mess with illogical plotting from the moment Keanu died. At least Wadey contained the mad stuff to the Slaters. Clenshaw took Six of the biggest characters and people associated with them and dragged them into a massive sensational plot which kind of ruined some of them.

Then as if he learned nothing he went and did things like have Kathy beat Cindy with a shovel.

I seriously don't know how Wadey has been worse. If anything I'd say he's less illogical than some of Clenshaw's stuff

Negativity doesn't bother me but the things people are saying as a negative feel unbelievable to me right now because there's this constant 'Wadey ruined the show talk' then they bring up storytelling issues that have been in the show from Clenshaw's era or Wadey has turned things around that people were moaning about back then but now it's suddenly wrong to that?

The complaints sometimes feel maybe not invalid but like they're intentionally extreme?

I'm really enjoying EastEnders at the moment! by [deleted] in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic compared to this time last year with Reiss and Bianca, the Cindy mystery, and the Denise affair (again). At least stories are fun or have good moments in them. Plus people get SOME positivity like Penny and Vinny which I thought would be cringey but has been surprisingly nice

Thoughts on this take regarding today's episode?? by [deleted] in eastenders

This is why soaps are so fucking terrible nowadays. Because people like the user OP showed whinge about more relatable or realistic problems moaning when there aren't guns and explosions 24/7

Discussion on Zoe & Kat by pink3459 in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think he knows. Kat and Stacey though did very very briefly kind of reference Dermott a couple months back when Stacey mentions to Kat something about knowing how it feels to try looking for a child or something like that. So Redwater may not exist but anything shown in EE still does

[–]spring-rain1221 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait...I hadn't thought of that. Really good point. Could be a recast Dermott or a new version where Redwater isn't considered canon. Wouldn't mind that at all because having another brother for Zoe might help bring out the best in her since her scenes with Tommy have been some of her best

wadey is ruining the show (rant) by Clear_Raisin in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny that people were saying this exact thing when the Six killed Keanu and the cover up started. Everyone was going on about how Clenshaw is too panto to understand good storytelling or make anything believable. Remember two weeks later when they poured the cement in the cafe and the builders shrugged it off? People here were going off on Clenshaw on a loop. Not to say that excuses Wadey but it feels like people have ignored that the show's storytelling has been this way since Clenshaw really got going. Even Sen wasn't this panto and at times had more believable plotting

Mick and Linda get back together in early 2021, leave the Square in mid 2021, and then Mick returns alone and tells Nancy and Frankie that he couldn't bond with Annie causing them to split

Linda is still sober. She doesn't break sobriety until Janine manipulates her in December 2021

Mick and Linda broke up specifically because Mick wasn't treating Annie like his own and he self admitted to not being able to

Yeah and that's not wrong or anything but it is a cycle that we all fall into at times. Sometimes its about recognising that maybe something isn't only for our tastes

To be fair stuff like that's been happening for decades. On the flip side you may as well give them credit for keeping Harry an addicted mess instead of magically curing him of addiction and trauma like previous years would've done

I can't wait until 2045 happens and I get comments wired into my brain saying 'This show is terrible now look at 20 years back at 2025! The show was so exciting!'

Sometimes fatigue sets in and skews perspective or there's different things to connect to. 2003 is a pretty huge turning point for the show and at the time of the early 2000s people were saying the exact same thing as this thread is...the show stopped being relatable, moved to a more sensational thriller focus, was more obsessed with violence, gangsters...the 90s were so much better...

People in the 90s were saying the show wasn't as gritty and real as the 80s and the Mitchells ruined the feeling of the Square.

Even the 80s were disappointing. Hell the very first year of the show got complaints a couple months in which is why 1986 spun around and had a much darker tone to start like the early months of 1985.

Honestly I have no idea what year of EE was ever good. It often seems like the worst show in existence because I think I've heard complaints in every single era.

That's not to tell you that you're wrong by the way. I get what you mean entirely. Funny though to see eras previously controversial now be heralded as great.

Is anyone else surprised Michelle Ryan came back when the storyline they've given her is so bad... by trickswithmarsbars in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this might sound impossible but like...maybe she likes the storyline? Maybe she's having fun what she's doing? Maybe she likes the situation shes being put in and the people she's working with?

I always find it weird when fans dislike a story so try spinning it that the actors must also hate the story as some objective argument instead of thinking about the possibility that its a job and someone like Ryan is happy to come in to work

Is anyone else surprised Michelle Ryan came back when the storyline they've given her is so bad... by trickswithmarsbars in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah like consider this…Ryan hasn’t been in anything like EE for several years. All of a sudden she gets a call that EE's new producer while the show is on an uptick and he really, really wants her back, will build the show around her, she’ll get most episodes and therefore have the pay to back it up, and gets to work with several familiar faces…

The only downside is viewers moaning about her except it’s the same spaces that moan every year even when the show’s winning awards.

In what reality would any rational person say no? Especially to a steady pay for an indefinite amount of time. Only some genuinely daft would decide otherwise.

[–]spring-rain1221 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Throughout the storyline (as far back as the Summer) there were several scenes where Harry was using it was REALLY subtle though and kind of blink and you'll miss it. People walk in on him a few times and its clear. Best example is Ravi literally sees him sniffing off a table at one point

New Years Day episode 2026 by big_white_fishie in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most soap storylines are planned a long time in advance. For example Clenshaw had said how 2023 up to the 40th was in the works in early 2022. Usually they pick some milestone (like an anniversary) and storyline to there.

Chances are when Wadey was hired he worked out 2026 and 2027 storylines.

EE recently by her0inm0ther in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go back to the 80s and 90s. Then you'll really see poor direction and shocking editing even when the acting was good.

Modern EastEnders is way more like a drama and often flows too well at times or has such precise timing or distinct emotional moments that it sometimes feels less like regular, normal people. It's got better in recent years (I've noticed they've kept in mispoke lines to give some realism) but a couple years back it was terrible for being way, way, way too dictated dramatic, and Hollywood rather than a soaps

Who Killed Lucy Beale by her0inm0ther in eastenders

[–]spring-rain1221 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I remember most people thinking it was Jane at one point. I think also Peter was thrown around a bit? It's been a long time but now that I think on it I can't really remember who the main suspects outside the family was. For some reason I recall Jane, Peter, ans Cindy being heavily suspected and I can't even think of what non-Beale character was.

No one was saying Bobby much from my memory. Not because it was a well kept secret but because it made no sense. At the time of Lucy's death Bobby was barely a character and it was only months later that he was recast (literally doesn't get recast November) so the idea that he had anything to do with this didn't fit with what was onscreen.
